Thinking of getting one of these for our son as an upgrade for his regular DS. Anyone know what the 3ds are like that playing regular DS games?

Went through a similar dilemma recently, many wii game sales on ebay later ended up going for an ipod touch. More varied uses with apps, is technically a mini ipad. Games are cheaper plus 'retina display' and all that jazz. Depends what age you talking though.

Worth it for Mario Bros. alone, incredible game...utter joy!

It plays all the normal DS games fine, as far as I can tell - no problems with my back catalogue on mine, anyway.
