I think the stig shown on Sunday is not the new stig, 'cause it was filmed middle of last year.

My bet is Ant (LHS +1), already works for the beeb, is tiny and can drive alot

I believe 'The Stig' was a term used at Clarksons boarding school, for whoever went first at an activity (science experiment, maths test etc.) as a benchmark for other pupils.

Really?

I always assumed it was a nod to Scandinavian rally drivers

I thought it was Stig of the dump?...

I thought it was Surf-Mat. He has to do something now he's not on here.

The Aus. Vs UK rally sketch was obviously done to show the UK winning - I wonder if they film an opposite version with the foreign presenters for airing in their country?

No, they accept their place in life, did they close on a low pass from a Supermarine Spitfire and Clarkson looking smug?

I'll never forget Tiff punting Mansell into the bridge parapet at the Old Hairpin at Donington in a Touring Car race. He had been pecking away for a couple of laps, was never getting past and just bosh away you go there (old Man)sell how'd you fancy a stiff neck in the morning

you might want to watch that race again. Mansell was all over the place, Needell was 2 places back when Mansell basically ran into him. IIRC he'd made the same mistake a lap or two before. (was an epic BTCC geek back then)

have a look:

There were a few different things on the Aussie version of that show. I'm pretty sure they didn't have the prison van for starters, but the coutcome was still the same, just Clarkson & co shouting "LOOOSER" a bit more

My current guess is:

He's certainly the right height.

That pic of Sabine looks remarkably like Schumaker with a rug on.

I was thinking Ken Block.

If they have a new "regular" stig at all it'll be someone like Ben Collins was - a reasonably talented but mid level jobbing racer who you've never heard off. Someone who's hungry enough to take the job, be reliable and not exhibit any ego (up to a point) and have no conflict of interests.

Highly doubt it'll be a millionaire ex F1 driver or any other broadcaster. Someone like that either won't want/need to lower themselves or won't be able to fulfill the schedule for full future seasons.

imo.

There always was, there was a main one but it wasn't always Ben Collins, unless he could some how get taller and smaller and also learn how to drive an F1 car.

Oh, and the new 'Star's car' seems a lot faster than the old one.

I think Rally Stig was Alaster McRae; Proton driver, quite handy.

I'll have a fiver on that.

Ha ha, I love Mansell's whimpering in the in car shot at the end.

That Donington footage brings back some memories. Used to love the BTCC racing. I was actually stood up the hill from that crash and saw it all. Quite upsetting when, as a youngish lad, all the blankets get hung/held up round the car so that you can't see them extracting your "hero" from the wreck. Turns out he was fine, if a bit battered but at the time.....
...and yes, we all blamed Tiff and had a good moan about him but there really wasn't much he could have done to avoid punting 'our Nige' into the wall!

It's Ben Collins

Think about it,...

Go on.. and then it clicks..

It's the perfect double bluff. People had worked it out so they all stage a fall out and a sacking. He gets a book and publicity and extra money without the Beeb having to fork out. New Stig arrives and is still in white...

I agree with ScottChegg with Alistair McRae being rally stig.

The new Stig has to be Kimmi Rikkonnen.

He's got track pedigree and is now a WRC driver.

Might explain the awesome rally stage against the Ausies.

Isn't Ben Collins now working on 5th Gear???

I hope you don't really believe that. Do you really think someone like Kimi would get out of bed to do that for TopGear anonomously!? He probably makes more interest in an hour on his bank account than the BBC would pay.

I'd bet it was A McRae as well.

It can't have been Kimi driving the Proton, he didn't crash ๐Ÿ˜†

I haven't seen it, but I would think that if it had been Sabine, her a$$ would have been a dead give away ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

LOL at the Ken Block comment, did you see him in WRC this year, i did he was shockingly awful, saw him on the welsh stages as well, he looked very underskilled when compared to the other drivers racing through the stages i was at, even the junior wrc drivers had more skills than him!!

I would say the stig filmed the weekend is an ex-rally driver and some of the filming is still Ben Collins, maybe Tiff thrown in here and there.
