New stig a woman? Is vicki butler Henderson too obvious? She's married to topgear director. What is she up to at the mo?

I thought tiff as the driving style is very similar to his ie not very smooth hands constantly correcting. However he is over 6ft

New Stig certainly seems a better teacher - both SIRPC's thus far have put in pretty impressive times.

It could be Sabina, although it's probably a bit of TG PR spin just a wind up Ben Collins, two TG lap records broken already by the new Stig, and it's a Doris at the wheel 😉

I said the same to my wife on Sunday - the way s/he was stood outside the camper (pretending to be James) - the body shape/stance looked female.

I spent years marshalling at motorsport events of all kinds. Every time Tiff was there as a celebrity mixing it up with (often club level) racers he was much slower, particularly unable to drive on loose stuff, and prone to crashing.

Must be good editing that makes him look good in your eyes. He may be a better 'racer' than me, but it's not my game.

I think Stig is a human.

choice of Tiff or Sabine, i thought it was sabine on the rally stage but the feet looked too big!! mathew wilson drafted in maybe??
the old stig (ben collins was the main one) had a few versions of, 3 or 4 peeps were used,
a lot of the tarmac stuff is Tiff though, can see his style there, very similar style to Carlos sainz in the rally cars, not so smoooth but effective!

I've got a feeling new Stig's a Rally Driver, always seemed to want to go sideways and looked good off-road.

A lot of the films were shot last summer (look at the trees, the colour of the grass etc) so it could mean that the old stig is still appearing*.

*Having said that i can't quite remember when all the carry on kicked off last year

There’s probably loads of them

1) To make sure the “Collins Incident” isn’t repeated.

And

2) To keep idiots like us guessing.

Sabina should be on more often, she was quite entertaining IIRC.

I completely agree, I saw him drive in the FIA GT championship in an Aston Martin DB9 and he was way off the pace and ended up in the gravel trap when it started raining. I also remember Nissan entering a 3rd car for him in the BTCC to help Laurant Aiello win the championship and he ending up running round in last place.

They definately use some clever camara work to make Clarkson (or his stunt double that does all the perfect power slides) look good, it's strange how he never tests open-top cars these days.

I'll never forget Tiff punting Mansell into the bridge parapet at the Old Hairpin at Donington in a Touring Car race. He had been pecking away for a couple of laps, was never getting past and just bosh away you go there (old Man)sell how'd you fancy a stiff neck in the morning
Class bit of driving that was 🙂

Stig of the Dump? What's he got to do with Top Gear?

Is Noel Edmonds still presenting it?

Well, being in Oz, the ashes parts were shown here back in September before the 'old' stig came out, so I guess it's possible it's old stig...

Whoever thought up the idea of having a stig is a clever person. It's certainly doing the job of keeping people talking about top gear and no doubt boosting ratings.

I think there is definatly more than one stig. I work in motorsport and if the rumour is correct it was Niall McShea driving the S2000 Proton on Sundays program. It would make sense as whoever it was has obviously spent a lot of time behind the wheel of that car going by the way it was being driven.

Agreed, they 'knew' that car as they were pretty close to stacking it a couple of times, driving it at that level would need a fair bit of prior knowledge of it I reckon, for what it's worth, which is probably zip 😕

I believe 'The Stig' was a term used at Clarksons boarding school, for whoever went first at an activity (science experiment, maths test etc.) as a benchmark for other pupils. The idea to make the Top Gear Stig anonymous was to keep a level of integrity with laptimes as originally more than one driver did the hot laps on different occasions (most predominantely Perry McCarthy) and it could not be claimed one test driver was faster than others. I agree the whole idea was a good one on the whole, Stig merchandise was prominent over Christmas, it must earn a good revenue.

Sabine I think now presents German Top Gear, which has the same production company. So I find it likely she may take part in the UK programmes.

I remember that mainly because of Nigel's rant afterwards. For a grumpy git he was always good entertainment.

Really?

I always assumed it was a nod to Scandinavian rally drivers
