Watched both episodes of Snowpiercer tonight. I loved the film version and this has potential too.
The claustrophobic feel helps a
I'm really trying to enjoy this, I think part of the problem is my Wife, she has this wonderful little trait, she can spend hours staring at her phone and the very moment I put on something brand new, she has to talk all over it for the first 15 mins so they animated bit at the start that may have explained WTF was happening was a complete mystery.
Anyway, that said, most of my problems are of a practical nature.
**SPOILERS**
From the few outside shots of the train you see it's largely uniform, but the interior width and height varies massively from pretty much local commuter train size in the tail to basketball court size up front.
Only one carriage has windows, possibly the last one you'd want windows in, as a plot device.
The design of the train is preposterous, it has a perpetual motion device for propulsion (somehow breaking the 1st and 2nd rules of thermodynamics) but no one thought to connect it to a generator or put a gearbox between the trains wheels and PMD so the train has to continue travelling the globe at high speed even though it's impossible to maintain the tracks simply so the generators can take drive from the wheels???
The moral code of the people in charge is almost a preposterous as the train itself. They pander to the people in first class, why? The passengers represent all of humanity, all the wealth and influence they once held is now gone. The cruel, almost satanic security guards would take charge about 30 seconds after society fell. Speaking of which, they will almost gleefully dish out the sort of corporal punishment that would make Saudi Arabia think twice, but there's no death penalty, murderers are kept in a drug induced coma consuming scarce resources.
I've tried to ignore all that and enjoy the drama, but without the train it's a pretty simple story that lacks depth.
I'm still enjoying it, but it won't take much of a dip in quality to make me turn off.
The moral code of the people in charge is almost a preposterous as the train itself.
I remember when the movie came out and the entire thing was so preposterous that I never gave a thought to watching it - seemed like another Waterworld. I know it got rave reviews, but I just can't bring myself to watch it.
Tried the first episode of Snowpiercer last night. It was even more awful than I expected it to be.
I found the film pretty dire, so I now know to avoid the series. Cheers!
Also, I can't stand Tilda Swinton.
Just finished the Outsider.
This is on HBO currently. So you have to pay on Prime. But I thoroughly recommend it.
It’s a pretty good King conversion to screen.
Go in blind if you can. Eerie as hell.
Great cast too.
After rone posted this I kept meaning to watch it but the thought that it might be a ‘typical’ Steven King adaptation of 8 episodes of filler and two good ones at the end plus 1hr episodes made me cautious.
I’m now 5 episodes in and loving it.
Just finished season 3 of Dark.
Pros: It's done, three seasons, tight script, actual plot, devised right from the get go with a start middle and finish. Great acting, and scene setting, deviously complex plot (that at least makes sense in it's own universe) that forces you to pay attention (and make notes if you're a thickie like me!)
Cons: Really could've been stretched to another series, as some of the plot happens in v tight sequences that seem to have been added as an afterthought as some-one in a script meeting clearly realised "Oh, we need to show person x delivering book/ necklace/penny to person y otherwise there's no explanation as to why object a is now in person y's possession. Stop with the talking in riddles and meaningless platitudes as if they are cosmic fundamental truths. It's really really profoundly annoying to have one character do that, when most of them do it, it's ****ing inconsiderate.
Other than that, really good telly.
Just finished season 3 of Dark.
Literally started the first 2 of season 1 last night, so thanks for the summary, will probably continue on but I am wondering when they get to the upside down and where the demogorgans are.
Recently completed season 2 of The Politician, I really enjoyed it, it's full of over the top characters.
Also watching Pose as I'm on a bit of a Ryan Murphy phase.
Innocent is pretty good. Nothing outstanding but solid in all areas, production, direction, script, story and acting.
I posted another PSA about this but Unorthodox is simply outstanding. Fascinating story, amazing insight, great cast and very well produced. Well worth watching the 'Making of' programme as well. Perhaps could have done with one ore episode but, arguably, very clever to finish at the point it did.
I watched the first episode of series 3 over 2 sittings, the taking in "profound riddles" annoyed the piss out of me but yeah apart from that I'm still enjoying it.
OK I'm on series three now and Ozark has perked up a bit. Still quite dull, mopey and derivative though IMO. I really need to try some of these other reccos instead.
Still think White Lines is the best new show I've seen this year. Much more entertaining at the same time as having more emotional impact than most dramas.
Dead to me is fairly watchable.
Lennox Hill is a good watch telling the story behind the doctors/nurses who run a NY hospital link to imdb review here
Space force has it's moments.
Been watching White Lines these last few evenings. Hilarious in its preposterous plot and subplots but at the same time so easy to watch. If you like a bit of Ibiza hedonism and miss the 90s dance scene then jump aboard.
Last two episodes of Season 3 of Dark for me tonight, properly mind boggling trying to keep up with all the characters and all the possibilities and tangents from there, but it is some of the best TV I have seen in a long time
Just finishing S2 now.
Dead to me is fairly watchable
Was going to recommend this as a half hour distraction. Keeps the reveals going without being too outlandish (so far). Quite amusing.
Space force has it’s moments.
None that made themselves known to me in the hour I managed.
Just watching series 3 of the Sinner. Dear god, it’s awful. Thought the first two series were pretty good but they’ve spectacularly jumped the shark with this one.
We’re going to finish it off as it’s quite enjoyable seeing how utterly preposterous it can get 😃
Agreed Sinner 3 is dross. TBF the 2nd series was poor as well.
They do enjoy flogging a dead horse, Netflix.
They do enjoy flogging a dead horse, Netflix.
We come from a world (/country) where Hollyoaks, El Dorado, Eastenders, Corrie and that scouse one I can't think of the name of -side went on for a very long time on some cases!
I couldn't work out if Space Force was meant to be a comedy or semi-serious? IMO it failed at both.
Have to agree that space force was utterly devoid of any humour, why Steve Carell is held in such high esteem is a total mystery to me
I still get some Netflix/Marvel stuff coming through some of my news feeds and I'm tempted to watch Daredevil again which I thoroughly enjoyed. Anyway just found out Kingpin is Private Pyle from Full Metal Jacket... amazing!
I've just started Dark, two episodes in to season 1, so have been skirting by some of the above. Good to see it's still being watched.
Loved Season 1 of Dark... found S2 hard work, but persevered as it seemed to have so much potential... by E2 of S3 I decided I’m either too tired when I sit down to watch it or I’m not clever enough to follow the plot
Just realized that Umbrella Academy S2 is out. Gonna get started on it tonight.
It's very good so far (one and a bit episodes watched).
Umbrella Academy series two is great. Not quite on the same level as the first series, but still a damned good quirky bit of TV in my opinion.
Loved Umbrella Academy 2, as good if not better than the first season, hell of an opening intro!!
I binged the lot over 2 nights 😀
I binged the lot over 2 nights
That's what I'm afraid of. I'm going to ration it to 1 per day, maybe 2. Definitely no more than 3 unless I really can't sleep.

Haha, managing your own expectations there I see.
I am trying to save Umbrella Season 2 until our holiday in Devon starting this Sat. As it will probably P1$$ down the entire time I need something to watch. Might try Dark as well.
Was half tempted to watch Dark, but it's a bit too much like "The Outsider", and other things... Spooky goings on, mystery, we don't know what it is, we find out as the series progresses. It's dark, there'll be something gruesome...blah blah.
Want something else now. Not sure what. Not supernatural in any way. Not revenge, not romance, etc. Maybe a spy series provided it's not as ridiculous as Killing Eve (which for the most part enjoyed). Definitely no super heros. Watched quite a bit of sci-fi recently. No magic.
What does that leave!?
What does that leave!?
Have you seen Glow? That's one of the best things on Netflix IMO.
White Lines was very good too.
Both quite upbeat and non-derivative, which makes a change from a lot of modern telly I know.
Maybe a spy series provided it’s not as ridiculous as Killing Eve
How about Alex Rider? Amazon not NF and a little bit aimed at Teens but it's entertaining, at least to me.

What you need is some kind of Excel spreadsheet and a flowchart. 🙂 I have no idea what is going on, and my wife is constantly asking who the hell everyone is, who's related to who etc. Most of the time, I'm almost as clueless as her.
Not too much gruesomeness so far, though, in response to the previous post.
The HBO mini-series of Perry Mason is ok. Good cast, it's more of a film noir detective show than a courtroom drama. Bit predictable, but entertaining.
Hightown was also entertaining, but a bit more of a standard cop show. Silly plot, but decent performances.
BlackKlansman is on there now BTW.
Highly recommended, enjoyable and horrifying.
Just finished Kingdom, the MMA gym not kung-fu one.
Season one was a quite hardwork, didn't particularly take to some characters initially.
But it is well casted and writing really picks up S2 and 3. Also great soundtrack.
American High School teen shite is 100% off my radar but I bloody loved I'm Not OK With This. Highly recommend.
7 episodes around 25/30 mins each, so like a long film in duration. So hope they do a series 2.
Anna on Prime, a sort of Salt/Hanna mix
I enjoyed I'm Not OK With This too. Quirky characters, easy to watch, and nice and short.
Umbrella academy 2... brilliant and personally better than season 1.
Disney channel...really enjoyed Agent Carter, silliness and daft but worked.....faded by end of season 2.
Blackklannsman recommend followed by 5 da bloods,
