Anyone know what it's for & why it's important?
And how you stop the shorts escaping from it in the washing machine?

It's to stop them being damaged by other items in the wash. Velcro patches for example.

It also stops the shorts getting stretched during washing, after time lycra will become out of shape with continues washing.
I still use the bag to wash my Giordana shorts, threw the shitty Assos shorts in the bin.

How did your shorts get shitty? 😯 I thought only Lemond had been driven enough to do that. 😆
String bags abound in my house: they come wrapped round intense tyres and often body armour, and very useful for laundry IMO.

Yep I use them...100 plus notes shorts worth looking after properly
