The instructions suggest you can play it without a smartphone, but all the reviews seem to include the phone. Is it crap if you don't have a phone?

It works but you have to shot another gun...the phone app allows you to play solo and get a vr environment that moves as you turn, so you have to shoot the enemy in a 360 degree environment. Without you need to shoot another gun for it to count.

Then you don't need the app...but it isn't as entertaining.
