You live in the countryside and complain about the farmers. Was brought up on farm. This about sums peoples attitude to those that work in the countryside.We like the look of the countryside but not the farmers making a living. Early start and late finish is required to put long days in to make money and keep the countryside looking how you like it.
Around here people complain about the smell of the sheep. Of course that's because they moved into the countryside from the town and have no idea what makes it tick.

My complaint isn't about farmers, or how the countryside looks, or even the smell (I'm quite partial to a nice, strong countryside pong as it goes). I even totally get the early start/late finish - seeing as how I grew up next to and working part-time on a farm. I just don't like the fact that this one farm...you know what lets just call him an idiot....decides to drive his tractor to and from a residential area, and wakes up my daughter and wife (and sometimes me) every bloody morning and night.

its a complaint, the guy works in the countryside, you insinuate he uses red diesel illegally (there is some necessary road travel allowed) you don't know that and I guess its because you want to paint his character in a certain light.

They complain here about 'slow tractors' on the road delaying them on their journeys on Facebook etc etc. I can see his behaviour could be annoying if what you say is true. But its also the harvest season. All the farmers here work late start early. Drive tractors, pull implements, drop mud on road etc Its the countryside its how it is.

It's a residential street on the edge of a small East Devon town, houses on both sides, pavements, streetlamps, a primary school 100m up the road. So not in the middle of nowhere! I think the farm is about 3 miles away.

Who happens to be a farmer. You get dickheads in every walk of life. I don't read the news much, but reading some of the posts on here I'm guessing they've become some kind of protected species.

For example, If a farmer pulled that shit down Royston Road in Glasgow at 4:30 in the morning, maybe 8 miles from the nearest farm, the result would be very different to some posts on a biking website about how peeved the residents were.

If that's the case then why the rest of the spiel? If what he is doing is annoying, and he could modify his behaviour to show a little more respect and understanding to his neighbours then wouldn't that be agreeable?

No? thought not. It's not a complaint about farmers, it's a complaint about a single person, doing something without much regard for those around him. His profession and the specific machinery is relative to the situation for descriptive purposes and to explain the situation, but it is not the reason for the complaint. It could just as easily be a dog groomer guy with a Harley, or an accountant with a chav-wagon exhaust.
It's not like the OP moved in next to a farm and started complaining about the noise, the guy has moved his farm machinery into a residential area and is causing some friction, why shouldn't the residents be annoyed... it works both ways...
Film it tomorrow morning and post it up on youtube. Not sure it'll help but then at least we'll know if you're deserving of sympathy or a swift hoof to the slats.

Grind up the asbestos to save burying it (it came out the ground didn't it?) and dissolve the plastic straight into the stream. Plenty of time then to spray slurry into Tom's open window at 3am.
Do you have any friend with access to RPG launchers and the right ammunition? One morning of a large noise as HESH hits warm engine block and problem solved with no revenge comebacks.

In the good old days I did actually threaten to kill a milkman who went from a near silent electric milk float to a DI Transit which he used to leave running underneath my bedroom window at stupid o clock in the morning. He parked up round the corner from then on.

He may not want to get it nicked, but I'm sure there are barns or sheds he could park it in. Is tractor theft a big thing?
He maybe doesn't do such long hours in winter, maybe 6.30 am until 9pm or so. But the 4.30/5am start and back at 10-11pm has been going on for a couple of months at least. Obviously more noticeable now we're leaving windows open too. It does very much seem to be sunrise to just past sunset.
This morning he left at 5am, and as I type this he's not back yet. Though one of their cats has just popped over to poo on our lawn!

Fair enough if you lived next door to the farm, you should have had that expectation when purchasing the property but in a residential area screw that.

Farmers sell up, fields are either bought by developers, or other farmers sometimes miles away who get in contractors with huge 4x4 tractors to work the fields.

Tractors and farm machinery get stolen a lot. Valuable and hard to trace and easy to sell

@godzilla - It's a modern tractor, 62 plate I think. Not sure on the make, but it's a lovely blue colour. Not big on tractors, but it looks like a good bit of kit, decent size too.

Agricultural theft is big business. Tractors, 4x4s, quad bikes etc.
