[Closed] need to cut back, best TV package?

Redundancy means some cut backs, one is getting rid of Sky TV package (who have just sent me a letter saying they are putting the price up again in June) plus never been a fan of Murdoch empire but kids always wanted it for certain channels, but they are big now and don't really watch it much. I do like the skyplus recording though. So any recommendations for what else is out there but cheaper? Got BT broadband already though because we are out in the sticks only runs about 6-8mbps download. So might be worth putting all the eggs in one basket and worth getting a BT broadband/TV package? Most often watched channels are on freeview anyway but occasionally watch some stuff on Eurosport or Discovery at present, or iplayer of course. Any tips appreciated before I spend ages googling etc. Cheers

To get Eurosport on BT TV you'll need to be on BT infinity which is their FFTC service. 6-8meg won't cut it. BT website is bewildering though..so I could be wrong.

It's worth phoning BT for a chat. I was going to cancel my BT TV package but having their broadband meant that it was actually £1 cheaper to keep the TV package than to cancel it.

Eurosport is infinity only package. They changed the standard bt package recently so the bt sport comes down the broadband but I'm 6mbps and it's ok. Biggest PITA is not being able to record one sport channel and watch another and sketchy red button coverage.

I've worked round the sports coverage with a hudl and stream mobdro sports coverage through a mini hdmi to hdmi. Not HD coverage but it's acceptable.

Someone will have a better solution and one option is threatening to cancel sky and haggling a new price for what you have.

Eurosport can be had without a tv package. If you have a smart tv you might have the eurosport player installed. You can get a subscription for the player for about 3 quid a month.

Can you not download the Eurosport app and get a Chromecast to show it on TV?

I'd have thought that would work out a lot cheaper and you'll be able to use the Chromecast for a load of other channels too.

We don't have any telly but infinity broadband and just have eurosport subscription and watch iplayer etc on demand. Can cut the cost of tv licence as well.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Openbox-HD-VERSION-V5S-Black/dp/B00PDBDHMY

One of those plus a free gift from Ebay for around £16.99

Will sort you out for 12 months...

watch iplayer etc on demand.

I know it's *technically* allowed, but morally it's still dubious to me.

I cancelled sky last year and we now just use free view and Netflix. Don't see the point in paying for sky to have even more channels of junk no one wants to watch

Freeview, Netflix & Eurosport sub for the 4 months the bikes are on. Red Bull TV also.
Have never missed sky and it's a lot cheaper.

Freesat here, costs nothing. Don't watch a lot of TV, often streamed to a chromecast from tablet/laptop. I treat myself to the odd footy match on a 24 hour skysports pass from nowTV.

Freesat plus a Eurosport online subscription. We also have a Now TV box and have paid the Murdoch empire to watch a couple of sporting events live. Now TV payment still feels dirty for ideological reasons.

Freesat. Anything more than that and there is a danger that you'll watch cycling instead of going cycling. Slippery slope that......

Current youview box is great, and I'm not even a BT customer. Standard freeview channels plus Netflix do us fine!

BT also doing good value 4g sim only deals now so you might be able to save if you are out of contract.

Ring Sky to cancel they will then go through a process of offering you various packages at slightly reduced rates, keep saying no until you get through to retentions who will no doubt beat whatever the previous advisor was offering.

If the deal they offer is attractive enough for you then happy days if not go ahead with the cancelation as within the next month you will receive several letters through your door begging you to come back and offering you various discounted deals.

Or bin it off and just get Youview or similar ,that's what I and several others on here have done and I don't really miss Sky at all.

The odd shows I do miss I stream via t'internet but that's a different topic again.

Freesat. It's free, and you can use your sky dish. It's even pointing at the right satellite.

Free view or sat is free

Wouldn't pay what they want for TV, an area where I've always saved.

Makes you wonder why they don't offer it at that kind of price all the time, if they did they would probably double there subscriber rate overnight(then go through the gradual process of slowly increasing subs again) and significantly reduce 'Churn'percentage.
