Well Dyson told me it was Eighty Pounds. Not including postage.

See? Conning b's. That's it. I'm never going to buy a Dyson ever.

That does seem a lot given that the front soleplate (which I think is the bit you are talking about) is only £15 direct from Dyson (and P&P is free on items over £25):

As long as there are no blockages in the pipes, check the cyclone isn't full of 'clag' (in the upper part of the cyclone-dust sticks if damp/liquid has been up there) and check both filters, the one most people miss is the one on top of the motor (dc07 etc) my son has 10 dysons (no, really!) and they all suck really well, even the dc01's he has. I would buy one, user serviceable but the motors let them down on the older models (when a motor goes, it will go big!)

Our Dyson is 13 years old and still going strong (do I win?) Have replaced one bit of plastic which cost ~£20 IIRC. How much do bags cost for a Henry?

We have a DC01 in the garage that still works perfectly, despite being dragged around cleaning out cars, plastering / brick dust etc. My eldest vacumed the drive with it last summer. Still going strong.

64p each for a henry bag, takes a good long time to fill up. But henry also has a big cloth filter thing which actually means you can not bother with a bag. My bro is a plumber and he uses henry bagless. (I know suprising a tradesman that cleans up after himself..)

Our 1995 DC01 died in September this year. The only parts I have had to replace on it were a wand (<£5 from e-bay), the brush (£6 from e-bay) and the sole-plate £15 from Dyson); it was ace. It replaced a Henry.

We found that, in our house, it was like comparing a football team from the conference to one from the premiership. The Dyson was that much better. That's why we've just replaced it with another Dyson.

Does a Henry get any bonus points for being UK made? An agricultural Orange 5 to Dyson's over-engineered overseas plasticy Whyte... 😛

Our dyson is probably one of the most disappointing items i have bought. after a cheapy electrolux goblin it had less suck and less handy.

i have stripped it down and cleaned it all out after seeing a few blocked holes.(plaster dust) and have been running without the hepa filter for the last couple of years.

We had Henry hoovers when I used to work at Quasar. Terrible hoovers had the suction power of an asmatic mouse.

IIRC £80 is the maximum price Dyson will charge to come out to your house and repair it regardless whats wrong. So it could need a complete rebuild at it would still be £80. Perhaps they didn't explain it well or you weren't listening?

Fir those that are removing filters - why do you think the filters are there? Without them the smallest dust goes straight back into the room. 🙄

Afraid the affection for Dysons is lost on me: I have used hundreds of different vacuums over the years and while Dysons are OK for cleaning carpets because they beat fairly efficiently, the upright ones don't seem to suck at all and they are desperately flimsey.
Henrys are great for all types of dirt, but don't beat; if they don't suck, the bag needs changing.
Miele are the best of all; but don't attach them to your sander 'cos the filters are very fine.

Elf, listen. You used one Dyson and had a bad experience, but there are lots of other positive stories on this thread.

So perhaps you had a duff model? Maybe one they made wasn't well designed but others are?

I've certainly never broken anything on my DC20 cylinder. It is very well made.

Perhaps a slightly less black and white view of the world might be better?

Maybe it's a bit like Pace forks. Years of quality stuff and then a few dodgy batches is the one everyone bangs on about for ever more.

I read somewhere a while ago that 25% of Dysons go wrong in the first year. Might have changed by now, But £250 for a hoover? Sod that. (Says the bloke that's just dropped £840 on a fridge! 😉 )

[smugness] We were given a Henry [/smugness]

Molgrips if sister grips still has the original Dyson the g-force she can sell it put her feet up & pay someone else to do her hoovering. http://www.bathhouse-restoration.com/the-original-dyson-g-force-cyclonic-vacuum my uncle (well mums cousin) was part if the design team on the first incarnation, he uses a henry now. Dyson's aren't as bad as people make out but a bagless Henry is much better.

We've a Sebo X something or other and it's fantastic. Bought it from a local company who run a repairs business, hoover shop and a cleaning company. The guy who runs it loves Dysons as they pretty much keep his repair company going - on his recommendation we went with the Sebo out of his three choices of Henry, Miele or Sebo.

He wouldn't touch Dyson for love nor money - look good, but unreliable. I'm sure people have had no problems with theirs but all I know is that the four people in my family who have bought Dysons in the past 5 years or so no longer own them - they've all died and been replaced with something less pretty but more reliable.
