I'm pretty cut up. We got him from the cat and dog home two weeks ago (some rescue eh!). He jumped a low wall this morning and fell into a river. I stupidly went in after him (waist deep) and pulled him out. He died in my arms tried CRP and everything ran with him to a vets but too late his wee heart gave out.
I cannot believe how an animal i've had for 13 days can have reduced me to a blubbering wreck.
That is so sad. He looks like a lovely litte fella.
Sorry for your loss.
gutted for you mate. amazing how quick they become part of the family.
Ah that's really sad, I'm so sorry, I'm sure you made that 13 days very special for him though 🙁
OMG I am so so sorry. Poor wee boy. You must be gutted. So sad for you, am welling up here. x
awfully sad, very sorry to read this
😥
Very tough.
It sounds like you did everything you could, and more.
looks like a right dopey critter - i can see why you fell for him so much
condolences
Thats awful 🙁
That's so sad. 🙁 Sounds like he had a really good owner for 13 days though.
Oh god that's an awful story. Gutted for you.
My springer got ran over about 15 months ago which was my fault. I was a blubbering wreck for days. Thankfully a specialist spinal vet sorted him though.
Sorry for your loss.
Horrible thing to happen, I feel for you 🙁
🙁
i'm very sorry to hear that. RIP Digit.
Oh no, that's dreadful. 🙁
Kinnel! That's terrible. There's nothing I can say, so I'll take from above, both me and my mutt feel for you. 😥
Oh dear, that is sad news on Christmas Eve 🙁
Very sad... but I'm sure coming from a rescue home those 13 days were probably the best of his life..... hope you feel proud of what you gave him....
😥
Very sad 🙁
Sorry to hear that 🙁
😥

Me and Jim the greyhound are thinking of you and Digit

chalkstorm - MemberVery sad... but I'm sure coming from a rescue home those 13 days were probably the best of his life..... hope you feel proud of what you gave him....
Well said, I'm not even a dog person but that's tough on you & your family.
Sorry to hear this awful news. Please don't let it stop you getting another dog. While he can never be replaced your efforts to save him show how much you cared, please transfer that to another dog, when the times right for you. Horrible to lose a pet.
Dogs definately become part of the family very very quickly.
I've got 2 dogs and I can only imagine how you're feeling.
Just think of the fun he had whilst you had him. That 13 days will have made a massive improvement to his life.
If you've got a garden, you could put a little ornament or similar in memory.
RIP Digit, you're no doubt in a place were they have infinite doggie treats to eat and green flower filled sunny fields to run around in 8)
Call me a sentimental old fool...but......
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
Gutted for you fella..
OMG that's awful. Losing a pet is always hard
Oh mate that's horrible. Condolences.
sorry for your loss mate
it is bad enough having to take a dog to be put to sleep.
it must be dreadfull for one to die in your arms insuch a way.
feel for you mate.
That's so sad, poor little bugger
I cried like a baby when my brothers dog died
Really sorry to hear that, losing a pet is awful 🙁
So sorry 😥
Condolences Kev. I have a dog, also from a rescue centre, that's the double of Digit.
Remember there are plenty more dogs where he came from who will also need a loving home.
At least you're still around to tell the tale - deaths from failed pet rescue attempts seem to be in the news quite a lot recently.
Just wanted to add to the condolences - I remember you posting that you'd got him just a couple of weeks ago, and he looked like a wee cracker in the photo.
Especially rotten time for it to happen as well 🙁
Gutted for you 🙁
Sorry to hear that. What an awful thing to happen to the poor mutt. 🙁
You do realise, coming from a rescue home, you gave him the best 13 days he's ever had. Thats a gift that cannot be taken back.
It was a natural death, probably not that stressful for the animal. TBH you can't ask for more if you were born a dog than to die having a great time in the arms of one that loves you.
Its fine to be sad, but not "regretful". Hope that makes sense.
Tough break - sorry for your loss
Give another mutt a chance I'm sure it will work out 😉
Just horrible that he's probably just started enjoying life and......
crikey it's dusty in here.
Have avoided even looking in to this thread untill now .
Gutted for you after a brave rescue attempt .
v sad, chin up

Too true. So sad though. RIP Digit 🙁
Truly sad news there Kevonakona, chin up fella.
I to have avoided this up to now. Really sorry to hear what happened. All here are very sad when I told them. Try hard to remember the best bits, he looked great! We hope you can find a different little monster soon - not to replace him but to start a new friendship.
You did a great thing giving him a loving home. RIP Digit.
RIP Digit 😥
+1, You did a wonderful thing giving him a loving home.
Very sorry to hear!
He looks a right troublesome bu66er.
sorry to hear your loss.
You did everything you could to try to save him. Sometimes no matter what you do it's not enough. Go out and get another, maybe one that's more at home with water breed wise if you live next to a river. Hindsight I know.
Really sad news.Leave it a while then give another one a good home .lots of selfish people dump dogs at Christmas there will be another looking for a loving home.
that's grim, I've had my rescue dog 4 weeks now and he's irreplaceable. the little shit.
Terrible news & I really feel for you....
But as others have said, getting another dog really is the best remedy for this.I never thought we could replace out last dog of 15 yrs but the family finally convinced me to get another one 2 years ago, after a 4 year gap.Although I'll never forget our last one, having one around again certainly makes it easier & I wish we'd done it years ago......
That's really sad, it is really hard when you loose your dog.
It sounds like you did everything you could, at least you were there for him over that short time you had him.
Bad Times 🙁
I am gutted for you for your loss, grief for the dog for few days and get yourself another one from the Dog's home again, there will be some more unwanted dogs after Xmas in the Dog's home.
Stay strong mate
Gutted for you mate, that's so sad. 🙁
There's another dog out there that needs you x
Sorry about your loss, sounds like he had some quality time with someone who really loved him.
Take care
So sorry to hear about your loss, so soon too, just as you got to know him. I hope christmas brings better luck for you.
So sorry to hear.
As above, go and give your second Digit the same chance in life.
THanks everyone. Feel sorry for the jogger who stopped just as i realised there was nothing more i could do. Finding a grown man, soaking wet, kneeling on a snowy path, crying onto a dog must be weird.
He died living life to the full IMO...
interesting conversation at the pound:
Could I have another please, erm my last one drowned' honestly!
really sorry to hear the news....i love dogs, dont have one but borrow plenty and think theyre fab..
a similar situation happened to one of my mates( a fireman) and he didnt hesitate going in after the dog....did cpr and mouth to mouth and the dog came too but died later in the vets..very sad!
sad stuff - as they ^ said, seems he went out having fun
Hmmm ways to get rid of Bingo....
very sad news
at least you gave him some good times
Sorry to hear this Kev, i was looking forward to meeting him! - Lau and me both liked the look of Digit on the pics! I am glad he went to a great master for his short time out of the kennel.
Get back on the horse as they say. Clive looks like a good un.
On a Good Dog
O, my little pup ten years ago
was arrogant and spry,
Her backbone was a bended bow
for arrows in her eye.
Her step was proud, her bark was loud,
her nose was in the sky,
But she was ten years younger then,
And so, by God, was I.
Small birds on stilts along the beach
rose up with piping cry.
And as they rose beyond her reach
I thought to see her fly.
If natural law refused her wings,
that law she would defy,
for she could do unheard-of things,
and so, at times, could I.
Ten years ago she split the air
to seize what she could spy;
Tonight she bumps against a chair,
betrayed by milky eye!
She seems to pant, Time up, time up!
My little dog must die,
And lie in dust with Hector's pup;
So, presently, must I.

Sorry mate
baldSpot - why do think the OP was a bit pathetic for being so upset after 'only' having Digit for 2 weeks - and he could just go get another dog. Funny attitude really.
Thats really sad, hope you can still have a great xmas. I'm sure if the dog could have chosen a way to go it wouldnt have involved sitting unloved in a rescue centre.
Gutted for you.
very sorry for you mate.understand entirely.
when you feel ready, the best thing may be for you to give another dog a home ?
very sad , chin up matey he had a few weeks with ya , the pic shows a very happy chappy.
😥
