What a great day, daughter over the moon, wife a reluctant convert.
I have to say the women's game is very good to watch live, whilst you still look at the screens it is not to find out what the hell happened, it is just to get a closer look at what you saw. This is because the bowling is that bit slower. This means you can see it in the air and gives you a much better appreciation of what both the bowler and batsman are doing. Mike Atherton makes this point in his Times article. Flashing stumps are also fantastic for the live spectator as it is so easy to see when they are broken.
Great game, great day and an experience I certainly plan to repeat.
Top tossing, Captain!
Batting first. Three players on dayboo, too.
*sighs*

If we're going to channel our inner Richies, I'd rather it was 2/222!
Plus ça change.....
Philander has a dose of the Dumoulins. And Boycott always had his pudding 😯
oh kock
another one bites the dust.
I do love a good Yorker. Done well, they're almost unplayable.
I'm without coverage in Argentina, following it on BBC txt. Its amazing to see 3 relatively new batsmen for England.
Dan, does the YouTube TMS coverage not work for you?
I'd forgotten about that - think I used it last year at some point. I'll have a dig around when I get back from the velodrome tomorrow. Cheers!
Oh bugger........
Courage, mon brave!
flaying it to all parts at the moment.
new ball time
more bounce and out.
Can anybody link to the live tms YouTube feed? I can find the last test, but not today
Cheers!!
I'm sure you'll repay the favour some time! 🙂
This lunchtime Our TMS piece is wondrous. Those glorious voices, and wonderful memories. Oh, and legover.....
😀
Agreed
Wet balls don't swing as much....
😆
get the tail ender the strike so he can hit a 4 and a 6 😀
Starting to look a decent score.......
😀they've lost the plot

I only heard a bit of it, hopefully available on iplayer or a podcast.
My personal favourite was a Lords test a few years back, possibly Australia, on a day when Her Maj was visiting so they had an extended lunch with 'proper' food. And somehow Aggers had got a copy of the lunch menu and was going through it with Tuffers, who was displaying a hitherto unexpected grasp of some of the finer points of the culinary art. Highlight was his explanation why saltmarsh lamb was so superior to other types only for Aggers to suggest the only lamb he Tuffers would recommend was that in a doner kebab. Proper upper class bantz!
Stokes!
666!

Number of the BEAST!
Will Carlos Braithwaite tweet him congratulations?
😉
Ben Stokes, I salute you!
Well done TRJ!
the appeal system is just as arbitary as not having it at all.
reprieved (or rather, not condemned) for exactly the same reason as Cook was sent on his way earlier.
It's supposed to be there to eliminate howlers, not take a chance on marginal decisions.
there is something wrong when you can be either not out or out for exactly same delivery.
Tuffers is having an orgasm!
Suddenly looking brighter 🙂
3-8 in 4 overs
TRJ net -17/3 today so far - not a bad debut!
there is something wrong when you can be either not out or out for exactly same delivery.
What happened? I went into a meeting and missed it (and the new CricInfo site is painful at trying to read back through the commentary)
another one bites the dust 47-4
TRJ -5/4
and another !
Almost disappointed it wasn't TRJ!
47-5
thats a sorry looking card! 🙂
Good evening to be bowling!! Much like England's first innings, one session of quality bowling.
6 down
michael calls it
OOF!
SA - are you England in disguise? Thats a real England style collapse
There was an interesting discussion on TMS today about why batting collapses are more prevalent in test cricket in modern times, across all nations.
LOL @ boycott ranting to himself 😆
follow on saved.
So ...... can Jennings get a run?
Well that was a turn around and in true tms style guess who is down the pub here

Listening to Graeme Smith on commentary he comes across really well, whereas I detested him whilst playing.
^ Agreed. Has he mellowed or was it more a persona for the sport?
Anyway, what score for the declaration?
270, 30 min before tea. 2 bites with the new cherry either side of tea. Good forecast for last 2 days.
I think under all his playing arrogance, smith was quite an under confident individual, which showed in his captaincy - much more cautious than Ponting/Vaughan/Fleming.
Can you really call cricket a sport though?
I guess it's quite difficult to play under a bridge.
nice pics of the journey to the ground this morning

How on earth Barstow can't get in the 1day side....
I think Smith had to give it some attitude when he took on the SA captaincy. He was taking over as a new team member as well as captain, had some old sweats in the team who may have fancied the captaincy above him, and it was the height of Aussie invincibility swagger time. I don't think a shrinking violet would have lasted too long.
He was ready to go toe to toe with anyone and back it up with lots of runs. I remember an early Mitchell Johnson 'honorary' five-for when he got his hand broken. I think he played on for a bit, trying to guts it out. Kalisz, on the other hand, blatantly didn't fancy it and eventually retired hurt with a split chin.
492 to win?
Erm.....
Captain cautious
I don't expect SA to roll over twice.
Sounds like the seamers are nipping it around plenty. We need a couple more wickets whilst the ball is still hard and the seam sharp. If we get them, it's all over, I think.
Bye bye Amla 🙂
Into 'em now.
De Kock cleaned up 😀
On yer way, Faf(?)
Wow
Calypso Collapso!
Hat trick ball. Stick it up his snot box, I reckon.
Stick it up his snot box
You say sweetest things.....
