I have to say the women's game is very good to watch live, whilst you still look at the screens it is not to find out what the hell happened, it is just to get a closer look at what you saw. This is because the bowling is that bit slower. This means you can see it in the air and gives you a much better appreciation of what both the bowler and batsman are doing. Mike Atherton makes this point in his Times article. Flashing stumps are also fantastic for the live spectator as it is so easy to see when they are broken.

Great game, great day and an experience I certainly plan to repeat.

If we're going to channel our inner Richies, I'd rather it was 2/222!

I'm without coverage in Argentina, following it on BBC txt. Its amazing to see 3 relatively new batsmen for England.

I'd forgotten about that - think I used it last year at some point. I'll have a dig around when I get back from the velodrome tomorrow. Cheers!

I only heard a bit of it, hopefully available on iplayer or a podcast.

My personal favourite was a Lords test a few years back, possibly Australia, on a day when Her Maj was visiting so they had an extended lunch with 'proper' food. And somehow Aggers had got a copy of the lunch menu and was going through it with Tuffers, who was displaying a hitherto unexpected grasp of some of the finer points of the culinary art. Highlight was his explanation why saltmarsh lamb was so superior to other types only for Aggers to suggest the only lamb he Tuffers would recommend was that in a doner kebab. Proper upper class bantz!

What happened? I went into a meeting and missed it (and the new CricInfo site is painful at trying to read back through the commentary)

There was an interesting discussion on TMS today about why batting collapses are more prevalent in test cricket in modern times, across all nations.

^ Agreed. Has he mellowed or was it more a persona for the sport?
Anyway, what score for the declaration?

I think under all his playing arrogance, smith was quite an under confident individual, which showed in his captaincy - much more cautious than Ponting/Vaughan/Fleming.

I think Smith had to give it some attitude when he took on the SA captaincy. He was taking over as a new team member as well as captain, had some old sweats in the team who may have fancied the captaincy above him, and it was the height of Aussie invincibility swagger time. I don't think a shrinking violet would have lasted too long.

He was ready to go toe to toe with anyone and back it up with lots of runs. I remember an early Mitchell Johnson 'honorary' five-for when he got his hand broken. I think he played on for a bit, trying to guts it out. Kalisz, on the other hand, blatantly didn't fancy it and eventually retired hurt with a split chin.

Sounds like the seamers are nipping it around plenty. We need a couple more wickets whilst the ball is still hard and the seam sharp. If we get them, it's all over, I think.
