wife and I started going out by chance - I had 2 tickets for the wonderstuff for me and a mate, he did his back in, i now had a spare, she was a girl at work with a wonderstuff logo on her webbing bag...... and the rest is history

So our obvious choice was....... Something Changed by Pulp, about the random nature of love (another band we both love)

But then being music snobs we went from that into 'Love is all Around' - REM unplugged version - and then into a great floor filler

and then into the full version of Tainted Love

Self indulgent - maybe, but it was our day.

Ours would’ve been this if we hadn’t eloped. https://g.co/kgs/xTGuLV

I always thought “smack my bitch up” would be a laugh.

Sensible suggestion: "At last" Nina Simone

Other suggestion: You shook me all night long, ACDC

There She Goes

I was at a wedding where they opened the floor with Lay Lady Lay, I just wanted to climb under the table with my curled teeth.

MrsV wouldn’t agree to Tiger Feet by Mud (with actions), so I’m having it at my funeral instead.

Jonv - nice! Didn't fancy 'Size of a Cow' then?

We had 'That Old Devil Called Love' played by a brilliant little swing band.

Other suggestions - If I should fall Behind by Springsteen.

There may have been a few stuffies songs over the course of the evening but that may have been pushing it a bit far 😉

I'm with theotherjonv - indulge yourself.

We went with (mixed reasonably well to keep the duration down)

Something - Beatles (my choice)
Are you the one I've been waiting for - Nick Cave (Her choice)
Fell in love with a girl - White Stripes (Both and kicked off the 'dancing')

But I do regret not insisting on Sir Mixalot.

OP

Can you dance?
We started with a waltz to Etta James..At Last (we did have some lessons so I didn't stamp all over her toes). My Mum and Dad were excellent dancers, as were the inlaws, so they quickly joined us on the floor to show everyone how it should be done. After that it was a mix of ceilidh tunes followed by a DJ.
One of the best days of my life, etc, etc. 🙂

To be fair, Tom Lehrer has this pretty much nailed. Options are:
She's My Girl

Or possibly if you're brave enough for a tango as the first dance:

The list goes on, but those two are arguable his best love songs.

that's why we wanted the Ramones, apart from obviously being a cool as **** band it was a perfect song to couple dance to and not do that awkward sidey sidey shuffle.

The wife used to dance ceroc / rock and roll stuff and with a bit of basic tuition I managed a couple of twirls.... but then when the evening guests, several of who were also dancers arrived I vacated the floor and left the experts to it. The oldies loved it!
