Has anyone noticed a change in background noise levels recently? Quite a few of my colleagues are complaining about really poor clarity on calls and I hear it from some of my compadres too. I have noise suppression turned on and the same headphone/microphone combo that I've been using for years. Definitely feels like a step change in something.

No issues for me today, daily user.

If it’s a bad update then it may have not hit me yet.

But is the problem isolated to your colleagues not being able to hear you? Or is everyone in your teams unable to hear each other. If the former, maybe your microphones full of crud.

Not just me - others complain about my background noise while I'm moaning about my colleagues. We're in an open plan, (albeit not massively noisy) office. Doesn't affect callers who are WFH, unless they have kids knocking about.

Not sure if anything's changed but a couple of years ago Team's had a 'feature' where it'd alter the mic gain during calls.  If you were chatting or in a silent venue it was fine, but if you were not talking and there was any background noise it'd ramp up the volume to stupid levels to try and match the background noise to the call volume.  It made calls impossibe under some conditions.  I ended up finding a work around where you created a 'aggregate device' of the mic that Teams couldn't control.

Perhaps this is a simular issue?

Interesting Harry, I had similar on Zoom with my personal laptop and managed to find some settings that switched off volume levelling. Of course with this being a work machine that I don't have admin access to, there's a chance I can't do that here.

We've had an issue in the last couple of days where headset microphones aren't working and it defaults to the laptop mic, but without the usual clarity. Everyone sounds like they're down a well.
