I have removed my gas locker door. Completely. The frame and everything. This was due to a seized hinge. I am replacing the hinge, and then will want to reinstall the door frame into the cut-out on the van. Previously some kind of mastic was used, but I was thinking of using some kind of adhesive/sealer, like Sikaflex 512.

I read recommendations of Soudhal (sp?) Fix All, and today the guy in the shop (hardware) suggested "Sticks Like Sh*t".

I am a bit concerned that using this kind of stuff may mean it is IMPOSSIBLE to remove the frame ever in the future, but the mastic seems so feeble...

Any thoughts..?

You need something with a bit of give, or it'll rattle itself loose. That's why Sikaflex is recommended.

You are right if you use an adhesive sealer like SikaFlex 512 or PU 40 it will be a pretty permanent bond that would be very difficult to remove. More likely to damage the frame or panel. But you should get a good strong flexible water tight seal.

The non-setting mastic type sealers are recommended for thie type of application. Some thing like Seamseal CV or BR.

The drawback of these is they can dry out and crack after a number of years, which can lead to some water ingress. However at least you can get the frame out to clean up and reseal.

If you want it to stay flexible and come off again later cleanly then you can get rolls of butyl strip on ebay - like a super-sticky blutak already piped into a bead.
