Best thing on telly this Christmas. Ted is great and a lovely touch for Paul to have his mum on vinyl.
Christmas TV perfection. Bob's gifts to Paul continue to raise dust.
Not into fishing at all but love this.
I know its TV and all that, but it just feels really genuine in terms of the friendship and reactions to events (like Bob's turn to camera when the salmon leapt in front of him). Doesn't hurt that at least one of them is a bona fide comedy genius...
Loved it. The onion joke had me laughing harder than I have in years

+1
Again, felt genuine though - don't think the look of Bob's eyes during and after was make up or ant kind of fakery. Just a natural clown doing whatever he felt was funny in the moment.
It’s just life-affirminglly wonderful viewing. Nice to see Gazza a bit more sensitively treated too. With the final scene with Paul’s mum singing it might have got a touch dusty in here

Definitely. Scripted or not, they know how to end their Christmas specials.
All round great telly.
On a similar but more low key level, I've been watching Roaming the Wild on iPlayer. Similar as in two pals just doing what they enjoy. I love the low key, non-expert adventure mentality.

Was that last nights? Co I missed it, thought it was the repeat of the Xmas eve one!
Yup another enjoyable hour and some lovely locations.
@jimmy I love Roaming the wild too. There's two series in case you missed the first.
Yes, available on catch up though. And well worth watching.
Good onions scene, albeit a bit of a remake of the party rings
Just finished watching it and typing this through teary eyes, not pickled onion related (definitely not fake as you can hear the crew laughing)
Very good tele. They get to fish some lovely spots. Nice touch with the record, what a lovely thing to do .
I absolutely loved that, brings joy to my heart.
The best hour of TV of the year , Great to see more of Ted what a lovely wee dug he is. As others have said nice to see Gazza treated properly. Everything from the drone shots to the slo mos coupled with a quality soudtrack . Paul Heaton and Jackie Abbot were good as well.
The best hour of TV I could hope for. How all TV shows should be made.
Paul's voiceover for Ted is bang on
Lovely TV. Nobody else notice that it was filmed quite a long time ago for a Christmas Special?... 🙂 (late summer looking at the trees).
Everyone notices, but it doesn't matter. 🙂
They all do, but just play along .
Fabulous bit of telly.
late summer looking at the trees).
I had it pinned as July judging by the light....
It’s such good telly, Almost convinced the missus to watch it too considering her Mum even said it’s not about fishing really and all about just the best heartwarming comedy between two heroes of comedy. And away………
Watched it last night after dinner in the pub
Great TV
Agree with all above, really enjoyed it.
I’m not sure if it has been mentioned earlier, but Bob Mortimer’s autobiography And Away is a great read. I was given it for Christmas and picked it up yesterday morning with the weather being so crappy outside with the intention of spending an hour with it over a coffee and panettone and had finished it by late afternoon. Highly recommended.
I got Bob's book off my Mrs for Xmas & she got it off her son, so we've got 2! Looking forward to reading it.
'Vic Reeves' book 'Me, Moir is also a hilarious read.
Settled down after Dawg walk yesterday, to watch on iplayer. Great watch , and can recommend Bobs book too a grand read
On a similar but more low key level
I hope this can be a bit of a turning point for British tele - I'm kind of sick of the endless attempts to inject 'energy' and not just let things be interesting. Bored of false jeopardy (bored or real jeopardy frankly) bored of drone crash-zooms, bored of watching industrial archaeology with an action movie sound track.
I think commissioners lose their nerve and create a demand to cram more things in rather than let interesting things and well formed thought room to breath.
This series is a great example - I'm watching people doing something I have absolutely no interest in and enjoying it. Theres a subtext about something else and its left as just that.
Great Canal Journeys on C4 is another good example of this - again, no interest in the subject matter but love the economy of it - two people who know how to talk not talking much. Not a word wasted really. And again its really about something else.
I'm really surprised Michaal Smiley's 'Something to Ride Home About' series never made it to network on the BBC and only got aired in Northern Ireland - again low key but really quite engaging just because of that.
Here's a little snippet of heart-warming lovliness
An incredible musical surprise for Paul at the Christmas party
Don't wind! DON'T... WIND!
Bloody excellent news! I'll be watching 🙂
Splendid
Great interview with Bob this morning, has just made me even keener for it.
And they filmed one episode with the help of my wife's school friend who's a proper outdoorsman, can't say which one yet but he said it was just a lovely experience watching them be just the same on and off camera.
"No false jeopardy or annoying commentary stating the bleedin’ obvious"
All that bollox and triple repeating what happened 10 seconds ago with a different camera shot just does my head in. I genuinely can't watch 3/4 of the shiiite on TV these days. Is it because the typical viewed is as think as pigsh1t, have ADHD and need to be told 5 times ? Or just a naff way of doing a program cheaply as they drag 20 mins out to 30 with this bs ?
Great, shall catch up with it on iplayer tomorrow night.
He said this morning there's more humour in this series. Not that they're any funnier, just the edit has been more in that direction.
Well, that episode was a bit rubbish I’m afraid. Surely it would have been better to have cancelled that rather than plough on with just one of them.
They could have had Lee snorkelling and looking at the wildlife.
Pretty dull episode for such an amazing place.
Now I know why Lee Mack hasn't been funny in years.
I watched a couple of episodes of this series and struggled to be enthusiastic. Nice background noise but it's lost whatever had me hooked (sorry) on previoys series, but i couldn’t tell you why.

I've felt the same. I can't put my finger on what's changed although when the locations are fishing lakes and private estates it loses a bit of the natural splendor of the location aspect. Maybe it's one of those shows that has run it's course (no pun intended).

We said this. I think it's because Bob's not well. He's the magic of the show.
Agree re. locations. Need more beautiful winding rivers.
Yeh it just wasn't Paul and Bob, or making the most of the location. Hey ho, only one episode left I think?
Yes, last night's was crap.
Pretty certain they'll be more after this series as Ted the dog's Instagram seems to keep showing them all out and about.
I enjoyed it. Still beautifully filmed as always.
