Heading to Morocco for 2 weeks in October for family hol. Planning Marrakesh, mountains & Essouria. Hoping to fit in some riding too. Does anyone have recommendations for venues/companies that offer day rides & bike hire, on some good trails and or spectacular scenery.

Cheers

You can get a lovely block of morrocan hash the size of your fist for around 10 euros. Well you could in 2001

I cycled in southern Morocco with Explore.co.uk - but that was part of a package for the week - hotel/transport/bikes. You could always ask them.

http://www.freeridemorocco.com/ few years ago now but can only have got better. Really good week a serious amount of riding.

PS if you want to drink and party look elsewhere if its ace riding and a little bit of "off the beaten track" then this is the one for you.

PPS I'm not the Simon who runs it.

Great cheers will give them a go. Looking for off the beaten track not drinking and party, and will avoid the kg of hash!

The road from Marrakech to Essaouira is quite interesting, bits of desert and a few goatherds and a couple of women's argan oil co-ops. Stay central/old town in Marrakech.

Was on a similar holiday in November and did a day ride with these guys:

Pierre-alain Renfer is the owner and chief guide. Swiss national, English speaking and very knowledgeable, He has a fleet of very up to date Lapierre mtbs and is the only Lapierre ebike centre in Africa. Not sure what ages your family are but the ebike is a great way to level the playing field if you want to take your partner / kids. He also does Road and city tours.

That's great cheers.

BillMC - we were planning on staying central/old Marrakech. What are your thoughts about essouria - I was thinking to do the same, to avoid the hassle of getting in & out.

Blackmout, Will check them out. 'kids' are mid + teenagers, strong & technically able - will be me that's lagging!

Not used them but passed this place last summer. Located in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains.

Essaouira is OK, specialises in woodwork and marketry. A bit cooler than Marrakech. I'd only spend a day or two there, nice grilled sardines on the beach. The town is blue.
