Interesting article by Ben Goldacre on the British Medical Journal site (who's official policy is for compulsory helmets).

Funny really, I didn't start wearing a helmet for "road safety"
Couldn't give a toss if they do make it compulsory, after breaking three from landing on my head I just wear one anyway.
I guess to a large extent the article will fall on deaf ears. People often don't like complexity and ambiguity.
Is that Ben Goldacre of Bad Science and Bad Pharma fame, do you think ?
There's nothing new in that article. It's like a helmet thread on here (but much more concise and missing the personal animosities and ego battles).
Yep same Ben Goldacre, a regular commuter cyclist, great writer
I've smacked a food few on the floor, don't really see the need for debate in all honesty.
Now this is genuinely creative research published in the same place

I think in the UK, the vast majority of people who will benefit from wearing a helmet wear one already. It's quite amazing that this get debated over and over.

Wear one if you like. If I crashed as often as you I would. As long as I'm not compelled to wear one I couldn't care less who does and who doesn't.

Hasn't this been done already? I think I remember reading a thread on the same article?
