My venerable 11 year old Dell monitor has finally died. I may never see another DVI connection as long as I live 😉
Anyway I only use it for Zwift in the shed. It's connected to my Macbook Pro with all the settings turned up to max. The replacement isn't going to get used for anything extra.
I'm going for a slightly bigger one, prob 27inch. Other than HDMI native, is there anything I really care about. £100 seems to get you something decent with a stand off amazon? I might get one with speakers in case I ever buy the Apple TV box.
Assume there's no point getting a 'gaming' monitor. For a start, I've no idea why they are different!
buy a flat telly off a local used group ?
ask around your mates - my zwift telly was aquired for a case of beer - 37 inches of zwifty goodness.
Just bought a used flat screen 42" for 50 quid. Picking it up tomorrow, great time for buying second hand flat screens as everyone is going black friday mad
Yeah 2nd hand sounds ideal. I don't need anything fancy. I might have to risk face-cloth marketplace then..
I can see me going for a face bay used flat screen and then ending up with it in the sitting room replacing our ageing Sony “not very smart” tv!
On another note - Is there a workaround to use a dell monitor with Apple TV for swift? Can I get sound with bt headphones or an external pc speaker setup?
Hi Alex,
I use an older 37" Samsung TV that accepts 1080p through hdmi. Using a PC with a reasonable graphics card, Zwift looks good in the highest setting although it is 1440p and the TV isn't so some scaling must be going on. (Also looks the same on 1080P setting so that's where it's left)
However if I compare it to my OHs setup that has a smaller 27" gaming monitor (but still 1080P), mine looks dull and slightly poor in comparison.
Ultimately it doesn't really matter as picture quality isn't that important when blowing out your backside on a daft interval thing so you should be ok on a screen that meets your aesthetic and pocket wishes, as long as it has the resolution etc.
Thanks @twonks that all makes good sense. My new MacBook Pro lets me have everything turned up and it looked pretty good on the old 19inch Dell monitor. Until 1) I compared it to the Mac Retina screen and 2) the dell monitor expired in a puff of magic smoke.
I'll see what I can find cheap locally.
@burko73 - no idea sorry. I keep wondering about getting an Apple TV box as we have a year of free subscription then I could run Zwift without taking laptop to the shed. Seems a very expensive way to combat extreme laziness tho!
