Did some camping on Friday night, on dampish tussocky grass. Very warm, quite humid, no rain. Woke up in the morning to quite a lot of moisture on the inside of the groundsheet of the tent and the bottom of my mat.

Likely to be a leaky groundsheet (excuse for new tent!) or condensation (guess could happen with any tent)?

Condensation most likely and one of the reasons I got rid of my tent. 3 x dogs and 2 adults create a lot of it and while it's ok to keep vents open in decent weather, it's not good when it's freezing cold (Lakes in March) and the tent had frozen rock solid!

Condensation would be my guess. Is it well ventilated?

Not brilliantly, it's got one little flap on the door that doesn't stay open terribly well. I actually almost slept with the door open.

It's a very old Eurohike or similar, I'm kind of looking for an excuse to buy a new one for adventuring.

I've had it rain inside a tent from condensation - so badly it soaked my down bag and turned it into a wet tea bag. I now use a GTX sleeping back cover inside the tent!

Yeah I've had condensation drip from the top of the tent before, but not so much from underneath.

Really I just want an excuse for a new tent 😉

How often have you used the tent recently? That's a lot of condensation, was there much on the tent roof and on top of you/your kit? If not I'd say a leaky ground sheet, I had something similar in my old Vango TBS after washing it and not reproofing properly. I did the flysheet properly but not the ground sheet so was well protected from direct rain but soaked it all up from the ground instead 🙂

There was nothing on the roof at all, nor on the top of the inner which made me suspect leakiness rather than condensation. It's not been used for a while to be fair, and it must be pushing ten years old. Only cost me £30 from a tent show so I don't think it owes me anything.

Gratuitous camp shot (if it works):

Not *too* many there, but one gazillion walking along the reservoir to get there!

Just below Crookstone Knoll, which is at the very eastern point of the Kinder plateau.

Was a cracking view!
