Seen a Microsoft Linx for sale at 280 pounds, are they any good? Looking for something that is windows or can run windows app/ office- powerpoint compatible/ able to edit pictures/decent screen and is reasonable fast (IT numpty here so nothing tremendous) and will replace a 5 yr old Dell laptop. usually use a Lenovo yoga tablet for most of time and it has fine.

Anyone know anything about the linx? Any good and any alternatives?

Cheers

Hi i too have been looking at Tablets from Windows, Apple and Android ones. Now what i do is spend ages reading different reviews and watching loads of you tube vids, on products IE tablets in this case. I try to get as much info and research in as much as possible. work out pros and cons.

As for the Linx i only come across them my self and my understanding seem not bad, got good reviews on Amazon depends which modle exactly looking at. I have looked at the Linx 1010 or 1020 models.

One on amazon come with keyboard. Im looking at the Surface pro 4 at the momemnt but pricy :(.

Is it Window OS your after for a tablet for editing etc. I would take a look at the Surface Pro tablet from pro 2 pro 3 certainly the Pro 4, also comes with a digi pen with these.

Hope this helps

I bought the Linx 1010B with the keyboard for Mrs Pinkster this Christmas and she is very impressed with it, as am I.

There's one annoying little bug with it that only takes a few seconds to sort out, in that the screen doesn't auto-rotate when plugged into the keyboard but that's easily resolved by going into the HW settings, deleting the keyboards and rebooting. Not been a problem since.

Other than that it's been great. TBH if I ever need another tablet I'm tempted to get one myself.

Slightly misleading in that the Linx is not a Microsoft product. It's a tablet that runs Windows.

Not entirely sure who actually makes them. Exertis run the web site but appear to be a distributor of all kinds of stuff to many markets.

Anyway, if doing photo editing then you may hit limits. Quad core Atom processor, fine enough for general surfing and should be okay with the Office stuff, but can be a struggle with more serious stuff. 32GB storage* is a bit low. 2GB ram on the 10" stuff by look of it - minimum I'd say for Windows 10, and even then it needs to be running 32bit version. 64bit Windows will demand a lot more memory. That's not to say it can't run, but it will be using disc/flash storage a lot paging memory out which will slow it down immensely.

Edit: looks like 12" are 1920 x 1200 resolution, plus there's a more beefy 12" 64bit version.

1920 x 1200 resolution and 4GB ram, running 64gb Win 10 and 64Gb storage.

If you can find it in stock.

Dogs danglies in Win tablets are top end Surface Pro stuff. Next to that check out Dell's stuff.

Otherwise you're into laptops for anything powerful.

*Storage with tablets, watch out. Some are 32Gb internal storage which can be limiting given space Windows will take up, plus often not SSD on the cheap stuff but eMMC which isn't that speedy. Expansion may be offered through a micro-SD slot but these are unreliable and very slow compared to the internal storage and especially compared to SSD. A tablet with SSD is a fair bit more expensive (Surface territory).
