Basically I've got a Grade 2 tear/sprain. Anyone have an idea of recovery time. Did the injury late Friday night due to slipping on the motorbike. Now it's not swollen and has minimal bruising and I have a brace in place. Now I can hobble on it but can't fully weight bare as it feels like it's going to give way. I use crutches for long distances. How long will it be roughly till I can go back to work?
What do you do?
RgN on a Orthopaedic ward funnily enough. But I've not seen a Mcl tear since I started in December so I can't really learn from experience.
Ironic.
Can they offer you alternative duties?
I did it last year, playing footy and was tackled onto the side of my knee and my studs dug in. Didn't fully tear right through and didn't require crutches.
Had physio where he found the damage / lump of scar tissue and vigorously rubbed it, which was just on the threshold of pain but also felt strangely good, and made sweat pour off me. Back playing again in 5-6 weeks.
Your prognosis is difficult to compare – dunno how serious it is relatively, dunno what grade 2 means, but MCLs aren't typically anywhere as bad as ACL
Snap... I did myself a textbook grade 2 tear by dropping a motorbike on my leg- foot got caught and knee got pushed. And, er, snap 😉
Not sure how typical my treatment/recovery was though as I was still recovering from a broken hip- the knee was already very weak and a bit lacking in movement before the tear. It was very unstable, I ended up on crutches for iirc about 3 weeks, then dropped down to one crutch for a bit longer, but then I already had the crutches and I knew how to drive them! Perhaps a different approach would have applied otherwise. My normal work required me to be on my feet all day, there was no question of doing that tbh.
I wasn't cycling at the time so not sure of return-to-bike times. Never really fully recovered, it's still a little weak and gives me a bit of discomfort after a long day. But it never causes any major problems, hasn't stopped me riding (in fact is one of the reasons I ride!)

What are you doing asking on here then?? You have access to some of the best physio's and doctors who know there stuff 🙄
Not that I am saying that you may get preferential treatment... 😛
