For various reasons Family FD is thinking of purchasing one, no less because Mrs FD went for a massage where they used one and she thought it was great.
Do they work ? If so what’s good?
Is a £80 one as good as a £300 one?
Thanks
Both my physio and my chiropractor recommended Dr Grahame’s massagers. Cost about 50 and are amazing
Not snake oil at all in my experience, far from it. As I've got older and muscles get stiffer and tighter it's been very helpful.
I got a £25 one of eBay, its a nice accompaniment to actual stretching or using to warm up the muscles slightly, not too dis-similar IMO to foam rolling, its another thing you can do which helps a little.
£2 lacrosse ball
YOu can buy massage gun heads that fit into a standard jigsaw for a tenner. Works a treat 👍
I have a super cheap one, it's been great- I still use a roller for most stuff but I absolutely love the gun for awkward spots. After big efforts I quite often cramp in my calf muscles and it can get to the point where I can't get to them effectively with my hand roller, without setting off the cramps, but the gun is so easy to use that it doesn't have that effect, that alone made it worth having.
(I did try the jigsaw but imo not as good- a big part of the advantage of hte gun is the ease of use)
got one. Tried it and can't be arsed, frankly. And I do use a hard foam ball to make arse muscles ache a bit less. My wife shows no ambition to help with this. Anyway, whatever oils your snake...
I think it works...I'll know it works when I get round to finding a decent video to show how to use it properly as I suspect I'm using the wrong head on the gun for my legs.
off the back of this and a couple of other threads just bought renpho mini from amazon. Had a £10 off voucher so could really argue with that. Should be here in the next few days
Does it give a happy ending?
‘Massage gun’ yeah she might be telling you fibs.
Seth (of the bike hacks) had a video where he said you can buy massage adapters for jigsaws. And apparently they are quite good.
Well we have splashed out on a Theragun using some vouchers we have
Let’s see how good it is as a jigsaw !
well its arrived and fully charged. Not exactly life changing experience but mildly soothing and relaxing. Has 4 modes with basically increases the frequency / numbness of the area. Really well built and solid like the Anker soundcore speaker. Worth having and not too shabby at £40. Seeing this is a quiet model I hate to think what other models are like
I bought a jigsaw massage kit after there was a thread on here where someone was using a kit with a recripocal saw.
I fitted it to my coordless dewalt and thought it was excellent, but the dewalt was a bit unwieldy.
So I bought the Bosch 12V jigsaw which is much more manageable. It also has a switch for on/off and a separate variable speed, rather than it being on a trigger, which is much better for massage use.

(I already has some 12V Bosch tools so had the batteries).
It is very good and very powerful - you need to be careful using the conical attachment to avoid an injury 🙂
(I normally put oil on the skin to avoid friction burns and work across the muscle)
As I got older (now 57) I get these sore points in my muscles (trigger points?) and this knocks them on the head.
But, most importantly, I was having problems with my knee, with slight pains on various sides of the kneecap. Went to physios, etc and did the recommended forms of exercise, but not geting anywhere.
But as this thing is so powerful I was able to find the cause of the problem by hammering my muscles and noticing the ones that felt 'different' in the bad leg, compared to the good leg.
I have another massage device from a prosumer brancd, but it does not have anywhere near enough the amount of power required for this.
The problem was in the muscles deep behind the knee, and I can provide relief by bashing the hell out of those muscles with the jigsaw and the conical attachment.
When I went to another physio he tried to work on all the muscles normally related to knee pain, and almost refused to consider the muscles I said were the problem. But after the exchange almost got heated he had a look and then had to admit that they were in a bad state, and started work on them.
Then the pandemic came and I had to resort to occasionally working on them with the jigsaw.
So basically it has easily earnt its keep - I might have resigned myself to a dodgy knee for the rest of my life if it hadn't have been for it, with obvious consequences for cycling.
But it needed to be something this powerful.
(I have also used it as a jigsaw and it is good for precision work, better than the Dewalt)
Yep they seem to work, as do rollers (even the mythical £2 lacrosse ball is useful I understand)
roller would have been as much use as a thing that is not useful, for me...
struggle to think what would have been as much use apart from many trips to the physio/masseuse and then onlgoing costs possibly over the years. Plus I can cut wood with it...
