On my iPad i have a load of mapping apps, and on my old laptop i had the whole country in memory map pretty much. Basically i am wanting a basic map app that is free so that i have a road map at (i think its 1:250k) i can use offline?
any ideas?

There's several, the AA Road Map one is probably what you're after.
Oh, and the Outdoors Great Britain app comes with the basic 250k map, with the option of adding more detailed sections later. That's only £1.99
