S1 watched, it got reasonable by the last 2 episodes, but by God the writing was lazy and predictable.

It reminds me of playing witcher 3. Every time he wants something, the person who has it says, I'll give it you if you do this one job first.

Its star wars, I'm loving it! They would have to introduce ja ja binks or similar annoying creature for me to be annoyed.

I dont get why Boba wants to help a Jedi. Killed his dad and helped dump him in the sarlac. I think he's going to turn on mando who kills him properly this time and mando takes slave 1

That didnt cross my little mind at all but Boba being killed and Mando getting slave one might be the way it goes BUT I cant see it that would just be too neat after the Razor crest getting blown up.

Another superb episode.

Didn't know I wanted to see a star wars / mad Max mashup but I'm glad I have done.

This is now not just better than all the other Star Wars movies apart from the original trilogy , but any other movie from the last 2 years I can think of. Anyone watched anything I may have missed?

The Prequel Trilogy is actually the best trilogy, way better then the original and sequel trilogy, Rouge one is a really good movie too.

This weeks episode was okay-ish, hopefully next weeks being the final episode it will be really good!

Is anyone else excited to see Hayden Christensen will be in the Obi Wan series set 10 years after Revenge of the Sith?

Does anyone know this poster in real life? I'm concerned for his mental wellbeing.

😉

Actually I would consider the case that the prequel trilogy was better than the sequel trilogy, but perhaps that's for another thread.

I agree and its a totally different experience watching them with my young son, they are kids films afterall. The sequel films are not too bad as induvidual films but the overall story is shite!!

Prequel vs Sequel, agree with this, after the excrescence of the most recent two (thought Force Awakens was a decent romp).

If the films had been released in the 'correct' order, Phantom Menace would have been the first and final Star Wars movie.

Ha. But if it came out in 1977 it would still have been a massive hit.

Yes, I re-watched with my daughter and was pleasantly surprised by the prequels, bringing much lower expectations to them, obvs.

My view is that George may have got a bit self-indulgent and confused with the prequels, but at least his intentions were true. By contrast, I liked The Last Jedi a lot - but the other JJ-directed sequels came over like cynical pastiche - with lazy, semi-coherent plotting.

Which is a shame, since there was a very strong cast and it could have been so much better if they'd come up with a decent plot.

Indeed, come for the weird CGI, stay for the trade negotiations.

Actually I would consider the case that the prequel trilogy was better than the sequel trilogy, but perhaps that’s for another thread.

The prequels probably aimed higher, but didn't meet their mark. Portraying the corruption of a democracy from within, the fall from grace of a destined hero and the manipulations that caused it all to happen is certainly more ambitious than what at least 2/3rds of the sequel trilogies were trying to do.

I wouldn't say that the prequels achieved their lofty goals, the last time I tried to watch Attack of the Clones I just couldn't stick at it and I don't think I've seen Revenge of the Sith since I saw it at the cinema.

The Force Awakens felt like a relatively safe romp, and pretty well executed. The Last Jedi had some interesting ideas but I struggled with its pacing and the decision to keep previous movie's main characters apart for most of its duration. The Rise of Skywalker was another enjoyable romp, but suffered mightily from the decision to practically ignore The Last Jedi, making the sequel trilogy feel doubly disjointed.

On the other hand, I did like this week's episode of The Mandalorian.

I dont get why Boba wants to help a Jedi. Killed his dad and helped dump him in the sarlac. I think he’s going to turn on mando who kills him properly this time and mando takes slave 1

I'm not sure that Disney would be willing to definitively kill off Boba Fett. He's worth more to them alive.

How did Boba Fett survive though?

Has that ever been explained?

Haha.

I think their intention has been to rehabilitate him, rather than set him up for a showdown with Mando.

The showdown's gonna be with Gus Fring, surely?

I'm pretty sure Boba escaped the Sarlacc using a thermal detonator. Think it was in the bounty hunter spin off book from the early 90s... kicking myself as I think I took it to Oxfam this summer, it'll be worth at least 50p now I reckon.

However this would now be no longer canon, so I suspect he tickled the tummy lining of the Sarlacc with a Porg wrapped in a wookie blanket until it burped in delight, soon to be a table top game like hungry hippos, hasbro are all over it....

The first explanation of how Boba Fett escaped the Sarlacc may have been in the Dark Empire Sourcebook for the old West End Games Star Wars RPG. In that he cut his way out of the side of the Sarlacc and tunnelled his way up through the sand. Apparently most people who were eaten by the Sarlacc tried to climb out of its mouth, and that was their mistake.

Apparently Boba Fett had time to formulate his plan to escape from the Sarlacc partly because of his armour and also because the Sarlacc digests its food via some sort of very slow acting neuro toxin (hence Jabba's claim about being its victims being digested for a thousand years).

This is obviously all very early Expanded Universe stuff, so could well have been retconned multiple times in the intervening years.

Back to the quality of all the films,

Phantom Menace, not good, not good at all.
Attack of the Clones, ok, quite impotant to the whole story arc.
Revenge of the Sith, excellent, lots of story, probably 30 mins too long.
Solo - not bad, good story.
Rogue One, possibly the best of the lot.
A New Hope, - still surprisingly good despite it's age.
Empire Strikes Back, excellent, good story etc.
Return of the Jedi, 1st half was ok, second half was guff and the ending terrible.
Force Awakens, visually good but a complete copy of a New Hope, didn't add anything.
Last Jedi, aimless mush.
Rise of Skywalker, great visuals, garbage story.

So prequels and originals both had highs and low, spin offs have been good, sequel trilogy not good at all.

I would largely agree although I thought solo was good and Last Jedi was easily the best of the sequels why they didnt come up with a story for all 3 before they started I will never understand.

The main problem with the sequels on my opinion is that the effects haven’t aged well at all. They look like something the sci-fi channel would throw out. That and Vader lost all the menace when you found out he was called Ani. No wonder he’s pissed off, he’s a galaxy far, far away equivalent to a boy named Sue

For me the love for Force Awakens is total. It’s a cleaned up less weepy/****y Star Wars 1.
Brilliant.

why they didnt come up with a story for all 3 before they started

That's the nub of it.

Seemed like it was plotted by focus group. Whereas The Mandolorian has been superbly plotted and executed, despite having multiple directors.

If only Favreau had been tapped up instead of JJ in the first place.

Biggest issue with all the recent movies beyond the obvious is casting.

Baby Yoda is an animatronic and walks all over the entire cast of anything recent inc Ewan M.

Many very talented people in their own right but when bundled into a franchise they just look like they are trying to hard / were placed to make as many people as possible happy, ultimately making nobody happy. E.g Donnie Yen is awesome but that beach scene was so stupid. In any other movie he would have wiped out the whole beach himself IP Man style.

The Mandalorian has revived my interest in Star Wars after the being let down by the film sequels and wish every episode was longer. Really intriqued in how they used led screens and gaming imagery to make it too.

cynic-al stick with it. There are a few a-team like episodes still but the story arc has been great including some brilliant clone wars appearances.  This is the way.

Hoping for a Boy George guest spot in series 3 🙂

Apparently he used his jetpack.

As that dates from a book published in 1996 it would appear to be Legends material. The canonical explanation for how Boba Fett escaped the Sarlacc is currently unknown. It may end up following the Legends story (which seems to expand on the brief details about it in the Dark Empire Sourcebook, in that Boba Fett made his own exit rather than trying to get out through the Sarlacc's mouth) or it could end up being something different.

One difference between the details provided in the Dark Empire Sourcebook and the A Barve Like That story is that in the latter Boba Fett left the Sarlacc alone for at least a year after escaping it, but the former describes him as nuking it as soon as he had recovered from his injuries.

Disney are not messing around, after royally cocking up the sequels they really seem to have listened to the people who actually like Star Wars.

One X wing, that took a second

Yeah me too, about a whole second, didn't think they'd have the balls, and bringing his mate as well.

Do you think there is any chance the sequels could be decannonised, this post original trilogy time line is a lot better.

And the post credits bit, it's so long to wait.

That was brilliant. Got a chill down my spine as the hooded person walked down the corridor for the first time, took a few seconds to click about the 'one x-wing?' bit...

I honestly thought Mandalorian was much later than 5 years after episode 6, given that they all have almost no knowledge of the Jedi.

Bloody awesome.

I honestly thought Mandalorian was much later than 5 years after episode 6, given that they all have almost no knowledge of the Jedi.

Don't forget that most of the Jedi (bar a couple) were killed of in Episode 3, Obi Wan went into hiding on Tattoine to keep an eye on young Skywalker, Mace fell out of the Windu and Anakin slaughtered most of the those in the Temple.

So between Episode 3 and this is a good few years, so since the Jedi have been gone/hiding for 20 odd years not surprising that they've been forgotten about.

Oh and that episode tonight was awesome!!
Didn't think they'd do it,but it worked, and the spin off that's coming!!! Best character ever!!

Yeah because a large group of Warrior Monks, with supernatural powers, who were involved in numerous battles, will fade from memory in 20 years.........

They weren’t forgotten about they disappeared went into hiding as they were hunted down. They stayed hidden even after Darth was killed.

That was superb, as I said the other week - such a shame Favreau didn't get the sequel trilogy rather than JJ.

Perfectly judged in tone with the classic star wars mix of originality and familiarity - and top level art / effects of course.

Great episode, I quite liked the fight between Mando and Moff Gideon too.

SPOILERS: The end was excellent, the appearence of a x wing, someone with a light sabre, the light sabre is green, the person has a glove on one hand was excellent, I really thought it was going to be some random Jedi not who it was.

I loved seeing him take out the Dark Troopers as he went through the ship, it was as awesome as Rogue one with the Vadar Scene. This is why I like the prequels, in Phantom Menace you have the fight with Darth Maul and in Revenge of the Sith you have the scene with Anakin and Obi Wan, in the star wars movies I want to see Jedi being awesome, I dont care for bit part people who have a story arc like Rose in the sequels, Han is good in the OG trilogy cos he is a slight villian (Han shot first remember), hopefully "they" see the response to it and we get more of it!

Mandalorian has been my favourite Star Wars related viewing along with Rouge one.
As said above Darth cutting loose in RO was epic and the jedi sequence at the end of Mandalorian was just as good.
Just makes me wonder what happens to Grogo between this and when we see Luke die in the last jedi.

Absolutely - which for me is why the sequel trilogy fell flat; why did it all have to be joined back to the original trilogy (yes I know the irony of what happened in the last few minutes of the Mandalorian..... ignore that....) rather than just doing a new story in the same universe.

I think I was one of the minority who thought The Last Jedi was the best of the sequels (not without major flaws though) as it seemed to be aiming for the third installment to go in a different direction (rebels basically gone, 'broom kid', etc). But then Abrams went and decided to just do the same bloody thing again.

Oh well, the Disney+ series all seem like they could be great based on Mandalorian so here's hoping! (and Taika Waititi film upcoming am definitely looking forward to)

Edit: Minority, not majority!
