One of my daughters is flying to Dubai from Manchester tomorrow night.

She's flying with Emirates who she is starting work with.  As we're not going to see her for a number of months it's going to be a longish goodbye 🙁

What's my best option for dropping her off as I don't want to do £5 for 5 minutes.

You're seeing off your daughter for months and complaining about potentially spending five quid?

This cropped up recently, you need to be wary of dropping off people in actual drop-off spots otherwise you'll be fined, I don't believe there's a 'trick' to be had here but I could be wrong. Have your longish goodbye before you bundle her into the car perhaps. Designated drop-off points give you a few minutes.

Rather than airport specific maybe consider spending time somewhere nearby eg Heald Green, Styal, Handforth John Lewis. Free or cheap parking and not far from airport. Left field option is tram or train it in from somewhere nice.

I flew back in to a Manchester yesterday and spotted a mobile CCTV van patrolling the immediate surrounding roads looking for people trying to do cheeky drop offs.

I’d either suck up the cost of parking or do as @mrsheen suggests and go for a nice bite to eat nearby and pop her on a tram to the airport from there.

Do the long goodbye somewhere else, maybe over a nice meal - then go to airport, throw her out the car and leave quick. Or tram/train/taxi to airport from Manchester.

Same on Monday when I landed there.

Leave your car in the park and ride at Trafford water park. Get the tram to the airport and see her off with time to make it a nice experience.

What you want is short stay parking but at £12 for an hour maybe not. Drop of zones are to kick people out sharpish. There is no where cheeky close by you can definitely get away with it.

I would do the goodbye at home with the expectation that drop off will be a quick hug and goodbye. Got to be better than a drawn out situation that just makes it worse

It doesn’t feel like 2 mins since the last post when you were asking about Dubai I hope she is looking forward to it !

There's a free drop off with shuttle bus, if the bus isn't there you can park and hang until the next one.

I think you get 30min or an hour with the free drop off @fooman suggests. It’s out by the big car parks where you get a bus back into the terminals. Bus is on demand when it’s quiet, but it never takes long to appear in my experience. Plus if you’re over height it’s way easier than navigating the low roof restrictions.

FFS ..... No!

It's probably going to be a long goodbye and will take much longer than 5 minutes I suspect so just wondering if the short stay would be better.

Confused because I also read about another dropoff that have an hour but didn't know where it is.

I'm sure you're right but try telling that to MrsSB 🙄

She is looking forward to it but it's all a bit surreal and she doesn't really feel like she's going ATM!

She's have preferred to go at the end of August but Emirates don't hang around!

There's a pub 5 mins from airport, I take the bus from airport to city centre, the 43 I think it is, as you leave airport, cross a road, there's a decent looking pub with big car park.

Is that not out in one of the long-stay car parks somewhere - one of the ones you have to get a shuttle bus from?

Free drop offnote that you can only use the free drop off for drop offs. You’re not allowed to get the bus out there to be picked up for free on the return leg!

The free drop off Hannah just posted is right next to (in fact carved out of)  JetParks1.  It has a free bus to the terminals (same bus the car park uses, so reliable).

It's not glamorous, but it's not rushed like the main drop offs where you are on the clock.

I wouldn't use it specificaly for a long good bye.  But nowhere on site is suitable for that and it's quite a relaxed way to get to the airport for all concerned.

Thanks for that.... Seems like the best option as we're not getting there until about 6pm and we're not in a rush.

Not bothered about the return leg as there isn't going to be one in the foreseeable future 😟

I'm sure I read last time I used that free one that you can accompany the flyer to the terminal to help with bags etc. then come back on the bus to get your car.

The no free pick up option takes the piss though.

You want to enjoy the drop off.

Get the train/tram.

Then you can all natter to your hearts content, take as long as you want, no hassles, no time constraints.

Well I thought I'd report back.

Did the free drop off at the Jet1 car park. Bus arrived within a couple of minutes as the driver dropped us right by T1 which was good as it was pouring down!

On my way off the bus I asked where we should pick it up again to go back to the car - he was rather surprised that we were just accompanying Chloe to the terminal.

Anyway he told us where to go and said he'd keep an eye out for us.... Which he did.

We left the drop off zone with about 4 minutes to go!

All worked well. Thanks for the info.

If someone can help me stop missing my little girl then that would be very helpful also 😞
