Hi,

Me and the Mrs are in the process of making our wills. We are wondering instead of leaving specific amounts can you leave percentages of your estate?

for example if my total estate comes £100000 I am totaly unsure of what will be left after expenses, So rather than trying to leave £50k to the Mrs then £40k the little un and 10k split between other family members. can it be 50%,40%,10% of the total that is left.

I hope you can get what I mean.

We are going to consult with a solicitor but we just want to try and understand how it all works before hand so that we know what we can can't do.

Many thanks

As long as your sane and no one is holding a gun to your head when you write it you can split it up however you want.

They say to leave percentages as if you say leave £5000 to uncle Joe and then when you die your estate is only worth £50 it's a nightmare. So divvy it up into quarters or whatever it is that you want. and most definately DO NOT do a buy your own will pack they really aren't that good.

As I'm doing a will pack now any chance of specific issues that I should watch for.

I've done a word.doc - which lists all my details (houses, car, possesions, financial crap etc etc). So it can be attached etc.

I've got two executors
I know my witnesses (*can't be left anything if they sign)
and I'm doing thw will as %s for everything
(two %s - one if my parents are alive, one if they are dead)
