What should I try before I wield the screwdriver? It's just a basic 8×5 inch job.

Is it a powered lock? in the case of a flat battery/lost key there's usually an overide procedure.

Otherwise, drill/saw/Crow bar/Semtex 🙂

Happened to me when the batteries for the keypad lock expired. Fortunately, an over-ride key was supplied which was safely stowed inside the safe 🤔.
Thankfully, the safe was screwed inside the cupboard against an internal wall in our timber framed-house. Managed to gently prize the box from the wall and used a 2” hole saw to get to the contents.

We had lockers installed at work.  The manager insisted on taking everyone's spare key and locking them in his locker.  Then... I mean, I don't need to say what happened next, do I.

Major brownie points that day when I picked it open.
