Anyone been watching this? What did you make of it?

I didn’t like the “cheating” at the start by using generators, nor do I think that the camera mans motorbike, and service truck, should’ve been fossil fuel powered (but understand why). Once I got past these issues I enjoyed the series, some amazingly beautiful places that I would’ve liked to have seen more of.
The final episode felt a bit rushed and crammed in, they made such a fuss over getting the bus sorted for the journey to the American border, but that part of the journey seemed to be over in a flash, making you wonder why they spent an episode and a half showing you the building of the bus. (How much must they have spent on it, and what happened to it once they crossed in to the USA?)

Anyway, I enjoyed it, not as good/action packed as their previous trips

I’m to number 3, some amazing scenery the UK really is tiny. Not sure using generators is cheating as such they had no choice on what was an ambitious project.

I've given up on it.

The first couple of episodes with the generator. Then you notice every country had both the Sprinter and another combustion engined truck. Constant 'drama' that seems concocted.

I've read up - they had a team of engineers, two spare bikes, etc etc...

Yeah it would’ve been a very short trip without them so can understand their use, but didn’t sit well with me

Then all of a sudden, possibly due to the warmer weather, the charging and mileage isn’t an issue anymore!
I thought it was very badly paced. Too slow in the beginning, then far too rushed at the end, almost as if someone said let’s make it 12 episodes instead of 16.
Still enjoyed it though, the original (and best?) series made me want to get back on a bike.

Agree with the rushed end, they were only halfway a couple of episodes back. Still some great places though.

I'm wondered how much Apple TV+ contributed to the project. Somebody must have paid for that dedicated charging network to be installed along the route.

Not seen it, but I loved Long Way Round, Down was pretty good too. Watched them during Lockdown V1 with my son, an episode a day and it was great sharing it with him.

It's probably total bullshit like all the previous ones, but it's intended as mass entertainment for couch adventurers, not a factual record for real riders.

I was amused after reading their exploits going through Australia.

I read about their heroics getting through crocodile infested creeks, rather gripping stuff. Trouble is I know the country there and I've ridden much of it.

For example, here I am pootling through their "crocodile infested creek" on my singlespeed.

I'm not knocking them. They do ride their bikes on difficult terrain, but it should be regarded as more like a reality show than a real adventure, and it is more than somewhat over-egged.

If it gets people out on bikes to have a go, then it's worthwhile.

Did they go through Australia?

Not in the three series that I have seen.

And while I don’t doubt that they have over dramatised certain events over the three series for the benefit of TV, it’s a stretch to call their exploits “total bullshit”.

Just finished it and enjoyed it on the whole, especially the bits in Bolivia which looks amazing. Not a great advert for electric vehicles, I think, and not as tough as Long Way Round. As others said, the last episode was really rushed - I was wondering how long they actually spent on the bus (and what if someone needed a wee in the night?) Also - on previous trips there was a lot of stuff about family reunions etc but now with Mr MacGregor's new ... domestic arrangements ... that part was quite downplayed 🙂

If you can find Mondo Enduro and Terra Circa online give them a watch. Round the world riding done on a budget without the support crews. Just a bunch of mates on DR350s in the 90s, great viewing. Have seen Austin Vince talk twice, probably some of his stuff on Youtube

^Austin Vince is great! "Lets go! Mondo Enduro!"

Re Long Way Up - it was probably a bit over ambitious or they didn't understand the quality of electrical infrastructure in the first parts of the trip.

It is so far removed from what a normal overlanding trip would be for anyone "let's charter a massive cargo plane!"
"Let's buy and completely rebuild a bus!"

but it shows beautiful parts of the world and the Harleys and Rivians came out of it fairly well. I'm also happy about the bus part - a little bit of Apples money is now putting food on the table for the people who worked on the bus in Mexico and I'm sure the driver ended up driving it back to Mexico and keeping it/selling it?

I didn't know about Ewan adopting the girl from The'Stans / Long Way Round. Makes up a little for his Fargo shenanigans

Not sure of the point of using electric bikes. If they're trying to say you can do this kind of thing on electric bikes they failed. If they were virtue signalling by using them then they failed. Would have been more enjoyable to see them on normal bikes and just cracking on. But so much YouTube content of people doing similar stuff unsupported without the back up crew of a big TV production company stuff like this just seems tame. TV needs to do better if they want to prevent people flocking to YouTube and other media sources.

Mondo Enduro is good. Was watching it a while back and no sure if I saw all episodes. might have to look them up again.

Not sure of the point of using electric bikes.

Just to add something different to it and maybe have been offered a better insensitive to use them.

I’ve not seen the Australian episode yet but that certainly would make Long Way up from South America.

Yeah - more authentic adventure and interesting (thanks for the link) but the videos are unwatchably rubbish. Claudio the cameraman on LWU did an excellent job.

There is an excellent 4 or 5 part parody of them on Youtube, which came out after the Long Way Round - I think it's better than the original series..

Just watched the final episode and am disappointed. Loads of time spent filming them fixing up that bus and hardly any film of the actual riding. Bah!

That parady is spot on.
