Judging by the oh middle picture I'd say nope. Looks like the logs are the wall thickness.

read a tale about that kind of construction, they had problems with the wood shrinking, and then all the little gaps filled with insects- think they ended up rendering the whole thing!

I can see how that would be a problem. My log piles have shrunk a good few inches in a year as each log contracts. There a lot of wood eating parasites in the US too.
