He's being generous. There is no plan. The "previous" government (ie. this one with a different head) proposed tax cuts and more GP appointments as well. Raised taxes... and getting to see your GP now is just about impossible.

EDIT: Oh, and Johnson was supposed to be looking at restarting Fracking back in March... but as it would deliver nothing it's already fallen away. What's the point in it? Really?

Ernie

Go on tell me specifically what he got right?

You defend Johnson continally on here.

Well you are obviously not going to let this go, perhaps it would be simpler and easier if you just concluded that I am a Tory, you seemed to be pretty close to that conclusion anyway.

Like Winston Churchill post wilderness years Boris Johnson will return triumphantly

Out of interest I just had a look and the bookies are already taking bets on her replacement

Odds are

Kemi Badenoch: 6.5/1

Boris Johnson: 7.5/1

Kwasi Kwartang: 7.5/1

Rishi Sunak: 10/1

I think I’ll stick a tenner on Boris. This country is now so deranged, it’s almost inevitable

None, then?

I haven't edited anything.

Odds are

Can you get better odds if you call a shorter timescale? I mean... eventually, everyone is replaced... I want some good odds based on calling a very short time in the post. Those odds will likely get worse fast, once she gets going properly. [ go on, say I'm "underestimating" her again... that one always makes me smile ]

And round and round and round we go again! Seeing as Penny's not in it this time I'm voting for Boris. He has charisma and amusing hair.

Yes... round and round....

https://www.conservatives.com/news/2019/conservatives-announce-50-million-more-gp-appointments

Today, Health Secretary Matt Hancock has announced that there will be 50 million more appointments in GP surgeries will be created every year under a Conservative majority Government. That will enable more people to access care and reducing the time that patients are left waiting.

How we’re creating 50 million more appointments in GP surgeries

Our GPs are working incredibly hard. But, with an ageing population, demand for appointments has increased.
As such, we have announced a package to increase the number of NHS staff, improve international recruitment and retention of domestic staff, and train an extra 500 GPs a year from 2021-22.
These additional appointments, by 2024-25, will be made possible by the delivery of 6,000 more GPs and 6,000 more nurses, physiotherapists and pharmacists.

They are going to make it easier for overseas trained nurses to practice in the uk. Obviously this will increase the supply of highly skilled well trained professionals 🙄

Ernie

Why will you not say what you think Johnson got right?

I think you are so blinded by being a brexiteer that you cannot accept that he got every major decision wrong over covid

This must be what it was like in ancient Rome in the declining years. A new emperor every Tuesday.

Les blood now but same amount of back stabbing.

Must be a phase that declining powers go through.

His work/life balance?

If you can get others to pay, and you're your own boss, it must be great to have that many holidays a year.

Why will you not say what you think Johnson got right?

I know you well enough to know that engaging with you is a waste of time as you simply ignore whatever you feel is inconvenient.

Twice now I have given you the example of when Johnson had to rely on the support of Labour MPs during the pandemic, despite having a huge majority, to pass legislation.

That is an example of him getting something right. Occasionally he did. But you won't have it. Fine, you are entitled to your opinion - everything Johnson ever did was wrong. Now ffs let it go.

@TJagain - he didn't even deliver Brexit properly did he?! Boris is without doubt the worse PM this country has ever seen (for now)! I don't even think he realises that he's been turfed out you know!

As for Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak - they are different masks on the same face - both members of the WEF so buckle up folks, lets see what that array of c***s have got lined up for us.

No, it isn't. It was him acting too late. And it cost us dearly. In so many ways. Labour still voted for the measures because even though they were late, they were needed. He was lambasting Labour for calling for the measures for ages, before finally flipping and then asking them to help him get the measures in place. What an utterly shit leader. Part time PM being dragged by the opposition by his ears to actually get on and do anything. Even when both lives and the economy were at stake.

You have not answered. What specific thing did he get right?

I guess you ate refusing to answer because you know in your heart he did not get any major decisions right

Iirc the stuff passed with labour support was too little too late.

He did not get a single major decision right as in my post above

No, it isn’t.

Okay so that's two of you who think that absolutely everything single thing that Johnson did as PM was wrong, I am sure there's more who agree.

Perhaps Labour should be pushing that line of attack and claiming that everything single decision made by the government in the last 2 years was wrong. It could prove to be a vote winner for them?

No, there must be things he got right... a stopped clock and all that... we're waiting on your examples... I can't think of any off the top of my head.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I praised him for some of his public support for Ukraine early on. And some of his climate change stuff before he dumped it like a stone. Promising to buy a wide range of Covid vaccines, rather than waiting to see which was ready first... that was wise... not his idea, but he allowed it to happen... gets praise for that from me... getting the Pfizer jabs early rather than waiting for the "UK" one (tempered slightly by acting as if the vaccination program was complete when it was only just starting).

There's no need for that. Starmer might be right-wing but to suggest that he would stand in a Tory Party leadership election is a bit below the belt!

Nice to have a comment from you mefty after a very long absence. Although hopefully that won't be the limit of your contribution for now and in the future.

Edit : No on second thought do yourself a favour and don't bother. This place really isn't geared up to be anything more than an echo chamber. Even a slight deviation from the script isn't tolerated.

Likely to disappoint, unfortunately there are too many posters for whom the above policy is the right approach - all abit dull and dim now.

Ironic, more like.

Promising to buy a wide range of Covid vaccines, rather than waiting to see which was ready first… that was wise… not his idea, but he allowed it to happen… gets praise for that from me… getting the Pfizer jabs early rather than waiting for the “UK” one (tempered slightly by acting as if the vaccination program was complete when it was only just starting).

As I understand it, it was a risky gamble which paid off. The EU was waiting until it had its ducks in a row regarding the booster jab before starting the rollout. We went "**** it" and started anyway. As it happened it turned out to be the right thing to do, whether you'd call that wise or lucky I don't know.

Just like when Boris took power, it looks like she’s mimicking his approach and there’s another purge going on.

Anyone who didn’t kiss the ring is out, to be replaced by a nodding dog.

Jesus… it really is like some kind of medieval court

Difficult to imagine how you could produce a cabinet even more devoid of any actual ability than the last one, but Liz has taken up that first challenge and will pass with flying colours

We are truly ****ed!

You're a clever guy Ernie, but you do talk some right bollocks sometimes. It's like every other post you make is intended to garner a reaction, then when you get one you act all innocent. You're like a firework, "light blue touch paper and retire." I really should know better myself by now but you keep reeling me in.

There is no censorship here. If someone holds unpopular views then, well, that's on them isn't it.

Do those that have kissed the ring get to be Chancellor of the Exchequer?

And with that unbelievably low post, I'm out... taking another break... mostly because this...

I think that if they ever get round to adding the “ignore member” function most of us viewing the politics threads will wonder why they are mostly empty with an occasional post

...is very true... and I'm adding to the crowding out again. Enjoy the ride of the first month of Truss. It's not going to be pretty.

This is certainly a tendency on here. Ive been on the wrong end of it a few times

I try not to join in nowadays when a pile on occurs.

Its also interesting about relative viewpoints. I find the forum overwhelmingly right wing with a few noisy lefties but the vast majority of folk are imo right wing

He's not that clever as people often call him out for it. He's just a vexatious poster and those of us with better things to do get on with something more constructive than arguing with him. In real life I'm sure he's wonderful blah blah blah....

That’s the funniest thing you’ve said in bloody ages - you’re the first to pile-on!!

Every thread - night and day.

Then you’re like a rabid dog when no one gives you the answer you demand.

Even a slight deviation from the script isn’t tolerated.

The problem isn't with disagreeing. The problem is with all the vitriol and hyperbole dished out.

There are some people who appear to think that the way to deal with people with whom you disagree is to hurl abuse until they go away.

Yup, that is very much my opinion too. So why doesn't mefty post anymore - he's suddenly lost the ability to present his case well? Or put off by the childish ranting about hating all Tories and everyone who votes for them?

One by one every Tory supporter on here has been either driven out or silenced, it seems pointless for mefty to remain and bother to engage.

FFS just look at the grief I received for daring to suggest not every single thing that Johnson did as prime minister was wrong!
