I really hope somebody manages to hack the sound system and plays the Benny Hill theme tune.
Nah it'll be the Limp Bizkit cover of Faith.
Nice to see the politically revolved arriving early, remember guys we just need to give her a chance! 😂
some great pictures out of this conf already
Compared to photos from previous tory conferences thats practically fizzing with energy.
More generally for the thread. A GE is extremely unlikely since whilst some or indeed many tory MPs might approve of it in a general theoretical sense they will be opposed in a very specific practical sense when it comes to losing their own seats.
Binning her off would be tricky. Any pretender to the throne is going to be looking at the mess and probably concluding its better to leave her in power to lose the election (if somehow she doesnt then dethrone her) rather than take over with little time to do anything and hence get the boot for her mistakes. Better to bide their time for power.
Keeps being said by successive tory governments, and yet those jobs were here when the £1 was worth $2, and are still here when the £1 is worth $1.1 and the real value of that minimum wage has crumbled.
Plus the flipside is if people are actually paid a living wage then far fewer will also be claiming benefits. Hence either tax cuts or better applied spending of those taxes rather than just subsiding companies.

So, what was the classic song?
This wasn't all that encouraging:
M-people – Moving on up – please make it so.
Oh my god, what utter ****ing idiots!
Mike and Heather are both Labour.
And have they even listened to the lyrics? FFS!!!
You've done me wrong, your time is up
You took a sip from the devil's cup
You broke my heart, there's no way back
Move right out of here, baby, go on pack your bags
Just who do you think you are?
Stop actin' like some kind of star
Just who do you think you are?'Cause I'm movin' on up, you're movin' on out
Movin' on up, nothin' can stop me
Movin' on up, you're movin' on out
Time to break free, nothin' can stop me
Movin' on up.
Having a laugh.
Sky News showing live Pound/ Dollar rates as Liv talks. Is that usual?😁
Liz is an odd one. That forced and plain odd smile always freaks me out slightly.
Terrible, terrible public speaker too!
Am I listening to a spoof version?
I managed ten seconds of it. Anyone doing better?
She looks like a hostage delivering her captors demands.
I see that she’s opted for the ‘I didn’t get where I am today….’ Self-congratulationary approach

Go Greenpeace!!
Hecklers!
Brilliant!!!
Well done Greenpeace 😂
Has someone deliberately moved her autocue too far too the right?
Ah, here we go, calling people against fracking part of the “anti-growth coalition”. Right oh.
Also claming that because their form of the energy price control is more expensive than any other countries’ that they are “doing more” to help with the energy crisis - no, they are doing less to help with our bills, we’re paying more than people in many other countries, but they are ”helping” in an utterly inefficient way that looks after energy producers’ interests more than ours.
Well done Greenpeace
And the BBC for zooming in so quickly and giving them maximum close up coverage.
We are funnelling more into the profits of fossil fuel companies than they could ever possibly have dreamt of…
Has Kwasi just got the political equivalent of the dreaded Premier League managers public statement of backing from the owner?
We can only hope so.
All eu regulations gone by the end of the year...... someone better get working on that fast then
She's an absolute natural with an autocue, isn't she?
More “anti-growth coalition” stuff. Unions, remainers, green protestors, other political parties, people who appear on the BBC (presumably that doesn’t include her 55 Tufton St friends)… if you won’t accept lower wages, are an exporter, are concerned about climate change, or even worse… aren’t a Tory, or disagree with her opaquely funded friends on TV and Radio… you are anti growth. Nonsense of course, but that’s what her line boils down to, and many will buy it. The Conservative party has made a series of mistakes that have limited our long term growth, and she is offering nothing that reverse those mistakes and is just lining us up for more.
I saw an estimate somewhere (I will try and find the source if it isn't restricted) of how long it would take the Civil Service to redraw all the EU legislation we have been covered by since joining, using the existing staff resources. It was around 30 years!!
Not if you just take the book titled "EU Regulations," cross out the title with TipEX and then title it "GB Regs." 😉
How long has that phrase been a thing?
The "anti growth coalition" slogan I mean?
Just a lot more of the culture war shit then?
That really is all they've got left, isn't it?
Movin’ on up.
Having a laugh.
Referring to inflation and interest rates I presume...?
How long has that phrase been a thing?
The “anti growth coalition” slogan I mean?
Since the start of the speech, but I'm sensing you'll be hearing a lot more of it.
*totters off to design 'anti-growth coalition' T-Shirts*
Sky saying she fibbed about being the first PM to go to a comprehensive school. Gordon Brown did too.
Since the start of the speech, but I’m sensing you’ll be hearing a lot more of it.
I suspect you are right. Anyone or anything anti Tory basically.
James Cleverly made me cringe throughout that speech. The BBC obviously picked up on the fact that Cleverly's behaviour was bizarre as they seemed to obsessively focus on him when showing shots from the audience.
She probably thinks a coalition is something to do with fossil fuels.
She's just painted herself as a vile despicable sociopath. This 10x 'anti-growth coalition' nonsense is a disgusting posturing against people who care about the environment more than their toxic profiteering. Never felt more alienated from this country. The only way this is going to get this country moving is to encourage more people to move out of it and away from these thinly veiled fascists.
Never felt more alienated from this country.
Wait ‘till you see whether her tactics to build support work. We, as a country, might surprise you. She has no mandate for this, and you never know, we might wake up and deny her one.
🤞🏼
More people might be with Greenpeace the unions and other political parties than with her. Let’s hope so.
[ actually, on the parties thing, there are already more of us with others and against the Tories, they only have minority support, we just need to start to act more as a “coalition” to stop Truss or whoever comes next ]
This 10x ‘anti-growth coalition’ nonsense is a disgusting posturing
Because they've realised that it works. It's a pithy soundbite which dismisses anyone who disagrees with them using little more than a handwave. "Project Fear" 2.0.
Well, she's inspired me to go for a dump.
What a PM.
Statement from Greenpeace:
Who voted for this? In a healthy democracy, people should get the government programme they voted for, but Liz Truss is putting most of it through the shredder.
People voted for strong action on climate, a fracking moratorium, world-leading environmental protections, and tackling poverty and inequality.
What they’re getting instead is fracking, a potential bonfire of rules on wildlife and nature protection, and now the prospect of benefit cuts.
Broken promise after broken promise, the prime minister is quickly turning her party’s manifesto into the longest piece of false advertising ever written. Many will be left wondering whether her government answers to the public or to the hedge fund managers, right-wing think tanks and fossil fuel giants that are cheering it on.
Many will be left wondering whether her government answers to the public or to the hedge fund managers, right-wing think tanks and fossil fuel giants that are cheering it on.
Can we have that made more pithy for your T-shirt Binners? There’s a genuinely chilling coalition of interests.
Has someone deliberately moved her autocue too far too the right?
Typical libertarian strategy. I'd imagine 'Hardman of Brexit's' Steve Baker's tiny hand might have involved.
Mike Pickering on LBC talking about the use of the M-People track.
[ as you can imagine, not thrilled - “worst government in my lifetime” - “despicable” - “awful people” - “we’ll see at the next election… roll on, roll on” ]
[ right I’m off to listen to T-Coy and relive Haçienda memories ]
Just a lot more of the culture war shit then?
All they have left if they don't take want to take responsibility.
I get that our version of democracy means a political party can elect a new leader/PM, but they can't be allowed to get away with tearing up the manifesto they were originally elected on. That would be rather authoritarian.
