She’s expecting to fly a top secret plane home.

She'd certainly rather keep its a private charter secret.

PS. I've made this up.

That’s not necessarily desirable, government departments need to be run by smart, generalist leaders, not subject matter experts. I’m sure the CEO of BT isn’t the world expert on phone technology, for example.

Liz Truss is still a **** though.

LOLZ, reminded me of…. Our at the time Brexit Secretary https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/brexit-latest-dominic-raab-trade-eu-france-calais-dover-economy-finance-deal-a8624036.html

When I was at Primary school I used to think the minister for Transport etc was the most knowledgeable person in the country on Transport

Haven’t we gone as little too From Russia with Love, by posting that microfiche above?

Are we headed for literal interpretation of "Minister for foreign affairs" as the next scandal?

An interesting article on’Instagram Liz’ in today’s Observer

She must spend most of the time when she's not in meetings posing for photos. I wonder who takes the photos - does she have a paid photographer as part of her entourage or is the task given to some lowly civil servant who has the misfortune to have to accompany her on her trips. She's not very natural in any of the photos (or indeed in presentations, news interviews, anything to do with any form of media) so everything looks really forced and unreal.

Dear God! Is there anything that this hideous woman doesn't see as a photo opportunity...

It was instructive listening to Ben Wallace over the weekend and this morning trying to tidy up after her daft comments regarding supporting UK citizens who want to go and fight in Ukraine.

It's getting worse. The lack of self-awareness is truly staggering. Heres the latest from Liz

Truss is always in campaign mode. The troublesome details of government are incidental for her. Johnson has proven that is the way to win, and Truss is busy proving to her party membership that she gets that and would be a better choice than others to take over from him if/when he goes.

There was a calculation a while ago on the amount of money that the taxpayer would have saved if Chris Grayling was simply paid a ministerial salary to do nothing. It was quite a spectacular amount of money because everything he touched turned into some colossal ****up that cost millions.

I'm kind of on the same page with Liz - so long as she's simply looking around for photo opportunities and playing dress up there's probably not a right lot she can mess up too badly. At least the RAF had the good sense not to actually put her near the jet.

The Kremlin is blaming Liz for the Nuclear escalation. I actively do not read anything linked to her so I have either missed what caused the offense or they are picking on her because she must be internationally regarded as an idiot

I'm with @crazy-legs on this one. I reckon if theres one person on the planet who's inept and clueless enough to somehow accidentally trigger nuclear armageddon, its Liz

So if she's out and about playing Mr Benn with her dressing up box, at least she can't do any damage

She was on the news saying that the Russians might use "serious means" to win the war, widely interpreted as "they might use nuclear weapons".
However she did say that if they did that there would be very serious consequences including being tried for war crimes. I imagine the Russians must be absolutely quaking in their boots at the possibility of appearing in The Hague in about 10 years time while half of Eastern Europe is still a smoldering crater.

However it was said in the tone of voice that I imagine she got from toy soldier Mark Francois while he was frantically fwapping away at the thought of nuclear armageddon - an element of undisguised glee as she called for greatly increased defence spending and suggested that UK citizens could go and volunteer in Ukraine (a comment immediately rebutted by the Defence Minister Ben Wallace).

She's managed to out-Boris Johnson with that comment. No mean feat. Touch unfortunate though.

Saw a woman on the news today who fled with her 10-week old baby. Absolutely heartbreaking.
Let's hope to god these talks result in at least something positive.

It only ever looks like she spends her time setting up lots of pointless photo shoots, while treading water in a sea of uselessness.

Indeed.

She's merely another cabinet member best suited for manning the B-ark.

Maybe it's for the best if she continues to get paid for doing nothing, or something fairly innocuous like modelling large fur hats.

Rather than, say, attempting to have some sort of input to a difficult political situation such as a public meeting with the Russian foreign minister.

I mean, we're one of the most developed and prosperous nations on the planet, and the best we can offer is Liz ****ing Truss. That's not not an argument for annihilation of the human race.

I suspect the russian comments about Truss are more about creating a rift in the pro Ukraine countries and reminding Johnson that he is their man bought and paid for.

Its also a reminder to Truss how useless she is.

"Much as I hate the woman, I’m not seeing anything in any of her comments that makes me think “right, that’s it, fire up the nuclear warhead system”?"

The thing is that with Brexit we have both isolated ourselves and made ourselves a target. All we can do is squawk from the sidelines. Even if she weren't so dumb the Russians would stiĺ be able to single us out for special treatment, its harder for them to do that with an individual EU nation because they've all got each other's backs, especially at the moment.

A smarter UK politician would realise the position that not being in the EU puts us in in relation to this conflict and subsequently tread far more carefully.

I saw an interview with an ex NATO staffer who said that Putin fears the EU more than he does NATO, because the freedom and prosperity offered by being a member poses a greater threat to Russian hegemony than tanks and missiles.

We're not really part of the conversation and if and when Europe reshapes itself we will have no real influence. For 300 years UK foreign policy revolved around making sure that no single power dominated on the continent. We may have taken back control domestically, but regionally and globally we are powerless.

EDIT: and what tj said.

In the interests of accuracy, the photos on the aircraft carrier were taken in October during a non-wartime visit.

Which doesn’t in any way detract from the fact that she’s a complete buffoon.

It does feel like the Russian foreign made ministry have chosen UKG/Liz Truss a the weak link in the western/global alliance(I can’t think why!) so hopefully she or they don’t do anything daft and our allies just keep up their current resolve.

It does not surprise me that a weed such as Truss grows out of this compost of a government. It surprises me slightly more that there is a place for Ben Wallace who appears capable.

May it be to do with her comments that she had no issues with British people going to fight in Ukraine?

I see two possible explanations:

1. Truss made the statement about British people going to fight in Ukraine as a cover for some black ops mission, so there is deniability if it goes wrong. The Russians know, or suspect this and are pissed off we are sending special forces / MI to interfere.

or

2. Someone in the Kremlin woke up today and is now frantically trying to calm the crazy shit down to avoid nuclear war. Looks at the world and thinks, "who does nobody like, and is clueless that will have said stuff we can point the finger at" and hey presto.

Its not impossible that both are true.

It is hard to remember which photo was taken when, where and why as the foreign secretary has made more than 700 appearances on the government’s Flickr account since taking up the job. I think it is something like 5 a day, every day and they all seem carefully planned and prepared.

How much time does she spend on preparing for photo0s compared preparing for work?

This very much guarantees he'll be back on the backbenches pretty sharpish

The last thing Boris needs is someone looking vaguely competent

I'm sure this list of mistakes and things that should be blamed in Liz Truss is significant and lengthy. However, I'm pretty sure the only person on the planet who believes Liz Truss has that much influence on the world stage is, Liz Truss.

To be fair to the Russians, having achieved Brexit, which then led to Boris being elected, they're thinking 'how can we make things even worse for the UK?' and obviously helping Liz out with her leadership ambitions is the obvious answer
