I find watching these clowns in our government is very much akin to the cringe-fest that is the Apprentice…. Only this is for real and involves our futures

Yep. It's embarrassing and worrying.

Makes me wonder why people with an IQ >90 like yourself can’t be bothered to step up to be elected and run the country. After all these IQ<90 people are ones creating the laws and taxes that shape your life

Because we’re too smart to want to deal with all the crap it brings with it.

The way Lavrov set her up with those 2 non-Ukranian regions was reminiscent of the "do you want woofers and tweeters" sketch from Not the Nine o'Clock News sketch.
Absolutely priceless.

It would seem to be a prerequisite for any cabinet position in the current administration to have a complete lack of any specialist subject knowledge.

To be fair, and this is real, having met many MPs over the years, select committee members normally know their subject backwards, they’re interested in it and knowledgeable about it, but front benchers are reshuffled on a regular basis and rarely have the time in the job to build a deep understanding. Personal opinion.

I think that is a failing of the system we have and the lack of professional career politicians - but we don’t want career politicians apparently, people who spend years learning how to run a particular governmental portfolio.

Hey ho.

People have short memories. In 2008 at the height of the Georgia crisis, the Russians / General Lavrov were similarly denigrating to David Milliband - telling “who the F are you to lecture us”

The only consistent thing is Russia’s attitude to Britain - irrespective of the political party in government.

Edit - managed to find something that references this:

Talking over your own translator is not a good look, unless you're Nikita Khrushchev.

That's she whole point. His very particular style is well known. It shouldn't have been a surprise. He's not a man you meet with, lacking some fundamental understanding of the situation and geography and simply gift him propaganda victories. He had to coach her to slow down for the interpreter for goodness sakes. He made her, and by implication the UK, look amateurish and totally outgunned on a world stage.

She didn't prepare, she was easily handled and made to look inept. Simple as that.

It was nothing short of embarrassing however you want to paint it.

That would be a fair challenge if candidates were selected on grounds of capability - not on connections and blind adherence to this prevailing ideology…

Serious issues in Russia, serious Statesperson sent to resolve, so she does a self promotion leadership bid video that looks like it was done by a primary school project team.

Because we’re too smart to want to deal with all the crap it brings with it.

And then moan about the decisions made by people you think are in the bottom 25% of IQ distribution and all the crap it brings with it......

That would be a fair challenge if candidates were selected on grounds of capability – not on connections and blind adherence to this prevailing ideology…

If you set up your IQ>90 party with the other 75% or so of the population you could end up in power

We've got one self-absorbed narcissist looking to replace another, in competition with another.

Perish the thought that they put as much effort into their jobs as they do into their own self-promotion?

Its like some kind of medieval court

That video on twitter.....?! Is that serious?! WTactualF? My six-year, old knows when, to put, pauses, in sentences better, than Liz, Truss. Was she taught to read by Speak N Spell?

I really dread to think how we are looked at on the world stage now. Any credibility we had left after the Brexit-shambles (assuming we had any left) must surely be rushing down the toilet.

No, she leaves that to Johnson...

And this one might be better off in the BJ thread but here we go:

More a blind disregard for the Civil Servants who are paid to be in the know and advise the Minister. One doesn't need to know everything just where to go for detailed knowledge and the humility to make the move.

I love that the video zooms right in on her face to make it extra obvious that she can't make it 3 words without reading the notes

The politicians maybe stupid/useless but not as stupid/useless as the people voting for them.

In 2019 69% of a 65% turnout voted for Truss so that constituency must want her to be their MP as 44% of all people in the constituency voted for her against 11% for second place Labour MP.

Bloody hell, Sergei Lavrov has been foreign minister in Russia for nearly 20 years!

And it would appear he's been a tosser the whole time

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton found that Lavrov treated her poorly during negotiations, like a "jerk."[12] A high-ranking official in the foreign policy apparatus of former US President George W. Bush described Lavrov as a "complete asshole."[13]

A Politico profile from 2017 featured assessments from senior Obama administration diplomats of Lavrov as an "anti-diplomat", with one describing him as "uncharismatic, offensive, uncompromising, cruel, unlikeable, brusque, caddish ... nothing redeemable about him

Well yeah but that's Putin's entire method of operating. Basically a dictatorship - job for life.
He might be a tosser but the fact he's been there for 20 years should mean that his methods of operating are well-known and Ministers (from any country) might be appropriately briefed on this subject.

Look, you're going to meet this rude arrogant arse, he'll try and trip you up, try and catch you out and he'll be thoroughly unpleasant with it, be prepared.

Truss didn't even look like she knew where she was, never mind who she was meeting.

Ann Widdecombe and Whatsherface Rees-Mogg (Jaocb's sister) looked very similar in their short-lived stints as MEPs when they were in EU Parliament. Barely knew who they were speaking to, just did some flag-waving patriotic bullshit.

This week I have been in Moscow to urge the Kremlin to abide by international agreements

Did she mean that without any sense of irony?

I genuinely can't believe that video is real.

Why have they even released what seems like a threat video? That soundtrack?! It's like watching some weird mash up of a travel program. While in Moscow, Liz thought she'd try her hand at some international diplomacy.

But the majority of people aren't voting for the individual , but for the party.
She must be a prime example of this Shirley.

Well it was nice they put her name on a piece of paper so she wouldn’t forget it.

As said Lavrov - known actor, knowing this you coach/prepare your diplomat, not just leave it to chance.

When I was at Primary school I used to think the minister for Transport etc was the most knowledgeable person in the country on Transport, I now get that there representative of that person / people but for Christ sake read the notes, obvs gone for aesthetic rather than content, there must be Tory's pulling their hair out with this bunch in charge, absolute armature hour.

That's not necessarily desirable, government departments need to be run by smart, generalist leaders, not subject matter experts. I'm sure the CEO of BT isn't the world expert on phone technology, for example.

Liz Truss is still a **** though.

She is utterly shameless.
