Is there a way to link two monitors to eachother? My laptop HDMI port is linked via adaptor to vga on monitor where hdmi is broken. The other monitor has ports for vga, DVI and display ports cables. I could give up a usb port if that helped.

Thanks in advance.

Looks like you'd need displayport on both and hardware that supports it.

Another option may be a laptop dock that connects via USB and has multiple monitor connections.

I would use a HDMI to DVI (or DP) cable for the second monitor then buy a USB->VGA adapter for the first one.

If you are short of sockets, a laptop dock will help. I bought a Thinkpad Dock for £35 (ebay) and it runs everything from a single USB port. The USB C version is still very expensive.

^^ This but under £20 off of amazon.. like this USB C version, with HMDI output, you'll find USB 2/3 adapters to hdmi/VGA output too.

but the laptop graphics card probably only runs up to 2 monitors, so laptop screen plus one other.

Just make sure your laptop supports USB-C with Displayport Alternate mode if that's the route you go down.  I've been caught out with that before.  Post up the spec / model no. if you're not sure.
