As an interesting aside - when I met petesgaff, he said he appreciated me talking to him about his cancer as if it were just another subject, like the weather or last night's telly or something. He said one thing he couldn't stand was people tippy-toeing around the subject for fear of upsetting him, which of course was the one thing that upset him.
I think a big drawback for people who get religious is the way in which they can't talk about it without getting all upset and "offended" by what anywhere else, would simply be a robust discussion.

Don't forget, too, that all these caring sharing finding yourself making the world a better place religions can't even manage to deal with homosexuality, which has been around longer than any of them.

I think everyone has realised you have no fear of upsetting people but it is not a universal modus operandi for engaging people in debate and persuading them. In fact it has the opposite effect as they think you are a male hen and wrong rather than just wrong.
What you term robust debate is viewed by the majority as condescending, patronising and lacking compassion/understanding. Every thread the only thing that unites everyone is a dislike of your style.
