We fear our highest possibilities. We are generally afraid to become that which we can
glimpse in our most perfect moments, under the most perfect conditions, under conditions
of greatest courage. We enjoy and even thrill to the godlike possibilities we see in ourselves
in such peak moments. And yet we simultaneously shiver with weakness, awe, and fear
before these very same possibilities.

Abraham Maslow

"It has always seemed strange to me...The things we admire in men, kindness and generosity, openness, honesty, understanding and feeling, are the concomitants of failure in our system. And those traits we detest, sharpness, greed, acquisitiveness, meanness, egotism and self-interest, are the traits of success. And while men admire the quality of the first they love the produce of the second."

John Steinbeck

Sent my mate a load of Bill Hicks dialogue when he was in prison in Thailand, he said they helped 🙂 Took me bloody ages to remove the drug references tho 😉

"I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass...and I'm all out of bubblegum." - Roddy piper.

And another favourite movie quote....

"Man, I see in fight club the strongest and smartest men who've ever lived. I see all this potential, and I see squandering. God damn it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables; slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don't need. We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off. " - Tyler Durden.

Back in my parachuting days, there was a sign up at the dropzone with a quote, I don't know who it's attributed to though.

Take not thine altitude in vain, for the ground shall rise up and smite thee.

Sage advice, I always thought.

Heard this on the radio this morning too, a lovely one, from one of the popes, relevant to fathers day.

One chap apparently heard his son praying one night. His son said..
"Dear Lord, please help me to become the man my father is."

To which the chap went to bed and his prayer went...
"Dear Lord, please help me to become the man my son thinks I am."

When I help refugees, people call me a saint.

That which does not kill us only makes us stronger. Mao T'se Tung

Actually, that was Friedrich Nietzsche.

Mao said stuff that was mostly stupid, except for one thing, in conversation with the present "Dalai Lama"..

"Religion is poison".
