Bit of a hypothetical one (for the moment)...

If you've been assessed as lacking capacity, have a Legal Gurdian appointed, and then die without a will, is the LG then automatically in charge of distributing your estate - or is it some other arrangement?

My understanding is no. The guardianship order ceases to have effect on the death of the person. (To get the OPG to formally release you from being a Financial Guardian - and e.g. return and security you have offered you may still have to jump through their hoops but you should stop acting as if you are the guardian as soon as you know of the death). In many cases of course the default Administrator of the estate will be the same person who became guardian. But this normally follows the order: Spouse > Children > Siblings.
