Right

Sorry about this, I really am. Following on from my ahem other car threads I think the wife and I have agreed we can afford up to £14k max on a family car that will be used for everything.

That won't get a new F-whatever 3 series but could get me a lovely 2012 320d m sport touring (absolute last of the "old" series). I test drove one and it was lovely but my head thinks I shouldn't invest so much money in a design dating back to 2005. Am I being stupid?

Should I just buy a later version of a mondeo or insignia instead?

Help me! P.S. The problem is I love my current e92 coupe :-/

Is this 14k you have in the bank or borrowing?

If it's in the bank I'd leave it in the bank and get something new on personal lease.

I'm not saying you should go for this - this is just an example of what sort of car you can get new...

...and BMW leases are often not too bad as the cars hold their money.

The secondhand BMW will lose value much slower than a new Vauxhall or Ford, slightly more maintenance costs though. I'd go for the BMW everytime

yep, not a bmw fan but you'll appreciate the beemer every time you drive it and it will not be depreciating much either.

Whatever you do don't buy an Insignia, it's a complete crock of a car and will depreciate in value faster than a bag of frozen prawns left out in the sun. Same with leasing, you're just paying off the depreciation in monthly payments plus the leasing companies profit on top without having anything to show for it at the end. Mondeo much better to drive, but BMW best of all I'd say.

Or for £11k you could get THIS, (or the 330/335 versions) and put £3k toward the extra fuel or a new bike/holiday.

It'll be on PCP or hire purchase (but using the proceeds of my current car to pay off more expensive debt rather than use it as a deposit).
