Morning all, looking at purchasing a new laptop in the next day or two.

Only really for internet browsing & iTunes, and bike vids! Brother in law suggested either this;

http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/laptops-netbooks/laptops/laptops/toshiba-satellite-c50d-a-133-15-6-laptop-21750395-pdt.html

or this, with a better processor;

http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/laptops-netbooks/laptops/laptops/advent-torino-x700-15-6-laptop-21646965-pdt.html

Before I press the buy button on either, is there anything better/ cheaper/ faster out there that I should be considering?

Thanks, Ben.

Check the websites for support. Toshiba are pretty good but Advent used to force you back to PC World for drivers etc.

Bought the kids a Toshiba from John Lewis, similar to the above but has Intel processor. So far so good.

Doesn't really matter what you get that much - they are all pretty good these days but...

DON'T BUY IT FROM PC WORLD!

Go to somewhere, anywhere, else. John Lewis are good.

John Lewis give a two year warranty for free and if you have a fault their customer service is excellent.

Worth a trip to PC World to prod them in person, all the specs in the world won't tell you if it's got a cheap screen or a manky keyboard.

I'd avoid "own brand" type laptops like "Advent" like the plague. It'll probably be fine until you need parts or drivers or support, and then you'll be up Brown Street.

Thankyou everyone, looks like I'll be investing in the Toshiba, but not from PC world.

Shame there's not a John Lewis near me (Leeds)

Ta'!

Edit; 2.13GHz Intel Processor £300 here;

Will have a look around one at PC World/ Currys or similar and probably get that one from Argos.

Never used them personally, but they're well regarded by Yarkshire friends whose opinions I trust.
