Hi

Laptop black but icons still there and all individually segregated by white lines if that makes any sense. .
No wallpaper etc or asking me to log in.
Rebooted back and obviously lost loadsbut still black screen.

Before anyone says anything obvious, I work on computers every day in a security CCTV/Alarm Access Control enviroment but this has got me worried

I don’t know enough about computers to get me back to normal.

The first thing to try would be to get it to boot in Safe mode. If it all boots correctly in safe mode, it’s probably a display driver issue. Again boot to safe mode, get into device manager and remove the display adaptor and reboot.

If it won’t boot to safe mode, then it’s likely a windows issue, so a system restore would be your best bet.

If the display is messed up before it even gets close to windows (during bios boot etc) then it’s likely a graphics hardware issue and, well, you’re pretty screwed.

I’ve a free afternoon so can get on with looking at it.
Thanks for advice.
I’ve never worked out how to post a picture here.

Does not bode well for identifying the issue and fixing your laptop 😉

Cheers for the advice.
‘High contrast settings’ was on.
Something I have never clicked on so no idea how that was switched on.
Something so simple yet made me think I had been hacked/ virus.
Thanks again for advice.
