Okay so spring is in the air (somewhere way above the cloud and rain) and summer is on route (fingers crossed) and it's my birthday approaching. I was thinking about buying a nice new jersey for MTBing. To be honest a lot of my jersey's are fitted style roadie jerseys (from moons ago of road riding) however nowadays I'm looking for something slightly baggier but still fitted. Last year I bought one of these:
http://www.minx-girl.com/products/maloja-cruise-freeride-t-shirt-chilli/235/
which I love except the neckline is quite tight and figured that I like a zip to let air breeze through in the heat etc. Was just having a surf and saw this:
http://www.minx-girl.com/products/sugoi-retro-jersey-lime/564/
(comes in lime, grapefruit or blue) I was wondering if anyone has one? Does it look alright with baggies?
Or open to suggestions of other SS jersys for some spring/summer riding.
Let's get some more girlie kit threads running ...
I find tops/jerseys pretty uninspiring and prefer to wear ones from outdoor manufacturers such as Lowe Alpine, Berghaus etc. High neck with a zip is my preference. Can't be doing with elasticated hems and back pockets, roadie style.
Like Sombrio tops though, nice fabric and pretty good colours.
Sorry, am not being much help am I?
Keep us informed of what you choose!
Nope that's a help .. oh never really considered wearing a "normal" outdoorsy style top, what kind of things do you have?? To be honest I never use the pockets but I just liked the look of the retro one above.
www.leisurelakesbikes.com have a good choice of Endura, Altura and specialized t-shirts with zipped neck...
i have a couple of zipped Endura and the odd specialized zipped shirt...i too prefur them..
I also do not buy cycling tops just outdoor ones, then when I go for weekends away for cycling / walking / running I don't have to take multiple tops for each activity. I have a selection of berghaus tops, which are listed as base layers on the website below but feel a bit thicker than other makers base layers and are good for summer. However, they are not as colourful as above but at about £20 very hard wearing and comfy.

Jammieddoger mm I quite like some of those but why can't they make SS tops with a zip, I think that is the problem as I like to be able to play with the zip depending on how hot/cold I am. But may have to find a shop to try some on and see how they feel as the "V" neck may mean it's not so bad. Plus anyway I can save money 😉
There's a load of SS bike jersey's in the Evans sale at the moment - you never know they might even have some in a decent colour and the right size 😆 I've picked up Endura and Altura ones there before.
I have a berghaus top which is zipped and SS, like the active LS zip - which is ideal - however it was bought last year so not on the website anymore. They maybe about in the shops still - they have a black one cheap at blacks (wish I was size 8 its very cheap!!).

The zip is quite long - if it is right down you can see a bit tooo much!
I have various short sleeved ones with zip - Helly Hansen, North Face. The fabrics seem to wick better, I have used them for running and all day hikes and do feel comfortable.
Try visiting Cotswold Outdoor shop at the Cotswold Water Park, just off M4 junction 15. It's a large branch so good selection but you may find them cheaper elsewhere.
If you're after something a bit less utilitarian, have a look at the Maloja range
Or I've just got one of these:
http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/Womens/11/Sombrio_Ladies_Plastic_Letters_S~S_Cycling_Jersey_2009/5360047377/
Nice fit, neckline right (not to tight), no back pockets.
biking clothes on the whole are so boring looking 🙁
I like maloja's range. have a longsleeve red freeride jersey. and as M-C says, it's rather tight around the neck (looks like it's out from star trek) but I love it.
my other riding tops (though very good) are boring black... if I had the money I'd be buying stuff like this: purple shorts 😀
Hark at you lot, all form over function!
It's a riding top. i recommend you all get close fitting tops (for wicking benefits) with 3/4 length zips (for ventilation)
You know it makes sense...... 😳
my other riding tops (though very good) are boring black... if I had the money I'd be buying stuff like this: purple shorts
Wow those shorts are cool, didn't realise Debbie had her new stock it. I'm gonna have to start saving!
There's a mens version of those shorts too.
oh so I've found a few how about these:
http://www.jejamescycles.co.uk/bontrager-race-wsd-sleeveless-jersey-red-id56771.html
not strictly what I initially wanted by hey looks cool and may be good for my 2 weeks summer trip to Colorado!
it's the smartwool eweturn jersey for £29 looks more like a funky base layer. What do you reckon?
Coming in a bit late but anyway....
I like that Bontrager top! I find cycling in the heat the 3/4 zip comes in really handy, just wear some kind of crop-trop bra under it to reduce the comments! And make sure you put enough suncream on your shoulders.
I love my maloja kit but be careful if you ever order any as their stuff comes in two different fabrics. As far as I can tell, the tops with a shorter zip are made from quite a thick, relatively warm fabric, whereas those with the 3/4 zip are of thinner more stretchy stuff.
MM what Maloja tops have you got with zips? Which would be good for hot weather summer riding? I thought the Bontrager top was ace too, I have got a sleeveless Fox top too but it's limited as to when I wear them since weather in the UK isn't the best!!!!
I have something along these lines...
Maloja top (now I've seen this years design I might have to buy a new one!)
I went out last night in the warm weather here and after going through all my other biking tops (6 months off sport hasn't been too kind!) I still went back to this. I ride often in 30 deg or so temperatures and this is always my favourite. I think if I had a washing maching in my apartment I would only wear this top!
Just remembered that I also have a Foska Irnbru top (as a present, although bought on the promise I wouldn't wear it in the UK!) which is also good for hot weather riding.
I really like the look of that sugino jersey - bit dear though! The sleeves look a a little bit longer and looser than normal (for a women's jersey) which, according to trinny and susanna, is more flattering if you haven't got skinny arms
I love that majola jersey............
Twin six is always a good bet too - scarlet skulls is good looking - lovely long front zip too.
http://www.twinsix.com/gear/womens-tech
Bike treks have a really lovely selection.......I have somethjing similar to the Dakine jerseys, which is really nice with its 3/4 sleeves....they look much better on than in the pics too
http://www.biketreks.net/84/Jerseys_and_Tank_Tops.aspx
Thanks for the twin six link - nice casual tees too.
My summer jerseys are a mixture - my favourite last yr being a Fox one with zip, back pockets but a relaxed fit - and very thin material on the shoulders, other than that its Nike drifit t shirt and a couple of sombio tops and a 10 yr old cannondale team top!
Anyone tried any Loeka tops? I have some shorts which are great.
Also chain reaction have a lot of IXS stuff - anyone tried that ?
Good thread ! thanks all.
