[Closed] Kitchen Appliances.... Whats good theses days?

Last year I ordered a John Lewis freezer, which is a rebranded AEG. It was about £550, and was awful. The quality of finish was shocking, and it seemed to be similar across the range.

After I sent that back, I got a Samsung that is built like a tank and cost less.

Also, I 100% recommend ao.com as a retailer. Made John Lewis look like amateurs, both in processing and delivering the order.

We were looking at an AEG fridge at about that price...the wife googled it and didnt get good reviews (poor customer service, apparently), which is the main reason for this thread.

When it comes to the cooker - get one of these. I love mine 🙂

I have a Seimens oven and hob, both have been pants. Oven controls melted, hob dials cracked and broke and the bulbs last about a week before blowing and being very hard to replace all in all an expensive disappointment.
Also under no circumstances buy a Liebherr fridge, that was a £1000 mistake I wont make again. My opinion is backed up by lots of other cross people online.

What's been good, Bosch as usual - WM, DW and TD all perfect after several years of very hard use.

Johndoh - looks lovely but were having built-in.

Had Bosch stuff in the past (fridge and dishwasher)..... Lasted well with minimal maintenance... I presume theyre still as good as they were?

I would go Bosch as minimum. Quite surprised by the comments on Siemens above, same company as Bosch just a slightly higher end with some more polished design and features. There is another make just above them which is the same group but higher end again. I forget the name but the induction hob was awesome with a magnetic knob that was completely free to remove and you could just sweep it in the direction of the hob you want and spin it, was very intuitive despite being so simple.

Had an AEG fridge freezer for 10 years now and it's never missed a beat. Dishwashers have been Siemens and again faultless. We've just had our kitchen done and our 18 month old Siemens was replaced with the same but integrated version. Had Bosch dishwashers and washing machines and they've not cut the mustard or lasted very long. Cooker is Rangemaster.

And it has a rotisserie - what's not to love with that. !

Really pleased with Induction Hob (suspect doesn't matter too much who you get it from)

Simple Bosch Oven (Wifey went for top of the range Neff and now she finally admits its all marketing B**locks)

I have had a Siemens fridge for years. It has been abused, survived multiple house moves and has been running in the garage for the last 3 years, without a problem, despite being outside it's rated temperature range.

I have a Siemens oven and hob, which have been fine for the last 2 years.

Bosch dishwashers have always been pretty reliable IME.

We use ours for heating food.

I signed up to which? to get an idea of what was good but their reviews were pretty useless..

BTW, apart from the flash cooker, we got all built in and went for cheapo ones (with half decent reviews) - as no-one can see them it really doesn't matter that they have Beko labels on them. When they inevitably break (just like the ones that cost three times as much will) I will replace with other cheap ones.

Do people actually care about the labels? I just care if they last and they are energy effective? Maybe I'm entering a new world of geeks with this house purchase!

We've got an AEG dishwasher, bought to replace a Bosch one that didn't last as long as I hoped.
Big mistake. It's a cheaply made piece of rubbish. The seals don't fit and constantly leak, the wheels for the runners are made of a cheap, brittle plastic that lasts about 6 months.
Buy cheap buy twice? - It wasn't even particularly cheap! Grrr....

Our recent experience with Neff is that they are absolute Papp - within 2 years of owning and very limited use in between:

- the dishwasher developed in intermittent fault on the door contact
- the main oven started to short inside when the fan was on for more than 1/2 hour
- the internal lights in the fridge, cooker hood and microwave needed replacing

I also wouldn't touch Beko - their conduct in regard of the fires and deaths caused by their faulty appliances are inexcusable as is their heel dragging unwillingness to do a major recall to avoid any further loss of life.

Well, kitchen being ordered and paid for in an hour. We've taken the appliances off the order - gives us more time to mull it over. I'm not fitting the kitchen til we've had the boiler and washer moved so plenty of googling hours between now and then.
