The Birds.

Filmed by and to a degree about, Martin Dohrn a wildlife filmmaker.

He's contemplating retirement and this follows him as he films and talks about the birds that flock to The Wash in Norfolk. Very contemplative and beautiful stuff. That's just a little hint of Gone Fishing in there too.

Anyway, just thought it might appeal to some others on here.

Should be on iPlayer soon.

I watched it again tonight as I missed a few bits. Wonderful insight on murmurations group response to predators and a shout out to the young bloke helping spot the birds, his comments made me chuckle!

Thanks so much for posting this. Might have missed it otherwise. Watched it last night with my wife. Absolutely beautifully shot. Not quite like anything else I've seen.  Sometimes more like fine art images than a wildlife documentary. And fascinating insights into the studies if the murmurations.

Top stuff. Looking forward to watching again with the boys!

Liked that a lot, thanks for posting about it. "Normal" wildlife stuff these days tends to grate on me with the OTT sound effects and attempts to string together a single dramatic story line from 6 months of filming 3 different groups of animals - that was just the antidote.

Thanks for that, we watched it last night and loved it.

I was reminded of something that Channel 4 used to put out in the early 90s, in the morning, perfect for waking up with a hangover to: lush nature and wildlife images with a music track of ambient/Cafe del Mar sunset mix type tunes.

I also enjoyed what I thought were subtle digs at Saint David Attenborough contrasting their different styles of wildlife narrative.  I tend to think Attenborough starts with a message he wants to deliver and then shoehorns the video in to support it whereas Martin Dohrn seems to draw a conclusion from what he sees.

I shall definitely watch the Garden of a Thousand Bees tomorrow (after we get back from the Gong gig at the Hare and Hounds in Birmingham).

My Garden of a Thousand Bees, just about to start on BBC4, 8pm.

It'll be on iPlayer around an hour after the fire finishes.

Thanks to onewheelgood for giving me a heads up on tonight's show, I thought last week's was a one off!

I’ve just watched the bee film, fantastic! We’ve got lots of places for bees but one of the most successful is one I made from an old thin wooden box, packed with old bamboo canes, sticks and straw and put up in the shelter of our summerhouse eaves. It was busy all last summer, just above our heads and despite me being allergic to stings they were no bother at all.
