[Closed] Just had a surprising celebrity lunch

Just went for a pub lunch with the wife when i realised that the people next to us were having a conversation much like an interview. It turned out to be Helen Skelton being interviewed just before she does some filming at Roundhay Park. It reminded me of many years ago when in the early days of romancing my future wife i took her to my local pizza restaurant. We sat down and ordered our meal and drinks only to realise that 3ft away on the next table was Jimmy Saville (pre child abuse knowledge). It made me think how small the world can be when you see famous people in your tiny part of the country.

I've had a wee stood next to Andy Gregory. He's got a set of shoulders on him. I had to pee from quite an offset.

I saw Richard E Grant in the kitchen shop in Cirencester this lunchtime. And Tony Adams walking down the street at lunchtime in Cirencester last week.

And Sue Barker in the Applecross Inn a few years ago. Oh, and Mike Tindall, Zara Tindall-Royal, Brendan Cole and his Mrs in the Japanese restaurant in Ciren last year. Those sightings were all cin the evening though, so don't count.

Not sure I've ever knowingly seen a sleb out in the wild.  Then again, I often walk straight past people I know very well, never mind anyone famous

And no, unfortunately that is not any kind of euphemism.

I saw Ben Rich off of 'The Weather Forecast' in Nandos once. I've never been since so I don't know if 'celebs' are regularly in there.

In a previous life as a toll monkey on the M6 Toll I handled the small change of many famous people, some more famous than others. But some proper famous types.

What is? The Japanese restaurant, where I Saw Famous People is the Japanese restaurant, called, I think, Soushi. The Thai Emerald, as the name suggests, is the Thai restaurant.

I don't do celeb 'star struck'.  I'd be more impressed if someone in the car next to me was a neurosurgeon who had just left work after doing something beneficial for the human race.

I used to earn a little extra pocket money mowing Bill Tarmey's (Jack Duckworth from corrie) lawn from time to time when I was a kid. A fair few of the coronation street actors were from the area, and most were really arrogant tossers, but Bill Tarmey was a really nice bloke.

Later in life, when working as a bouncer, Stuart Hall was the guest "of honour" at the opening of a minor nightclub, we had to ask him to leave because he was way to hands on with any women. So it came as no surprise when operation yew tree caught up with him.

My wife and I met up for lunch the other day and afterwards, as I was standing by the entrance enjoying the view (and waiting for MrsH to use the facilities), Nasser and Bumble came in to see if they could get a table.

They couldn't, as it was full, so they went to a café down the road.

I can think of 3 "celeb" encounters...

- We sat near Rick Wakeman in a restaurant in Ipswich

- I saw Chris Packham having his lunch in a pub in the New Forest

- I sat next to Titus Bramble in a pub while watching the footie

My mate not only stood next to, but actually had a brief conversation with, David Seaman at a urinal one time.

Actually it was in Harrods, and the exact conversation went:

'****in' ell, pound for a piss'

'Don't worry, I'm sure you can afford it'

I shared a jacuzzi with the England rugly team the day after they beat Australia.  I can't remember what year it was.

They put all the usual preening gym bunnies in their place as the team are properly ****ing huge.

Met Fatboy Slim and Zoe Ball at a wedding. Lovely people.  They invited me over to their house to surf. I informed them Brighton didn't have any surf. Not my finest moment!

My dad's local pub is well used by lots of famous people and has been for years as it's rather discreet about them visiting.  Back when I still lived at home I would pick him up on my way home at closing time and regularly find him talking away with the other regulars, plus a famous person hiding in there somewhere.  Off the top of my head he's been found talking to James May about old cars, Clarkson about war stuff, Damon Hill about F1, JK (from Jamiroquai) about local driving roads, Christopher Biggins about theatre stuff and Mark Williams (of snooker fame) about his new mobility scooter!  He never seems to find the women though, despite people like Emma Watson and Katherine Jenkins being there a few times.

Driving back to base today, on the road between Blackburn (West Lothian) and Bathgate. A lady walking along the road on her own,  full Tesco carrier bags in each hand, Susan Boyle. She could probably buy Blackburn if she wanted but still stays in her ex council house and walks to Tesco's. You can take the girl out of Blackburn but you can't take the Blackburn out the girl.

I saw Supergrass at Asda in Brighton once. Got a look off Gaz.

I told Timothy Spall where our office was when he came to moor his narrowboat where I worked.

An 'Expert' off of Bargain Hunt stroked me dog recently. Don't know his name.

I made 3 picture frames for Horace Panter out of the Specials.

Vincent Ebrahim (Mr Kumar) used to come down and camp at our farm every summer with a large group of friends.

I fixed the bale handler and fabricated a sheep handling trailer for Monty Don's son.

I spent an evening chatting with Kate Humble at a local function and got her to write my phone number in her diary. She never called me 🙁

Had an Italian with Ed Balls MP (as was at the time).  Well, not actually “with” - you get the picture...

had a chat with Jon Pertwee at a Honda show at Donington Park... well actually my stepdad did, but I was at the next table...

I saw Aaron Eckhart in Salt Lake City Airport coming out of the gents.

Have worked with loads of modestly famous people due to job. Funniest is Derek Thomson from Channel 4 racing.  Properly professional but at the same time Alan Partridge on steroids.

Also worked with Vicky McClure last year on a short film. That was fairly nerve wracking.

A few years ago we did a piece with Ashley Cole and Rio Ferdinand, and I remember them having credit cards stuffed along the top of their sorts.

Oh yeah, I saw Nick Cave at a car boot sale in Brighton. He was browsing the tat just like a regular human!

I went to the theatre (Hairspray) in New York with Tom Cruise and Katy Holmes. Well, they were sitting about ten seats away. They got ushered in 5 minutes after it started so I didn't clock them in the dark(though obviously I cursed their lateness) and they got ushered out as the curtain was going down and everyone cheered, and Tom waved. True story...

...and that dude off the show where they restore cars for people who used to be in Pop Will Eat Itself, was having a pint in the Shropshire pub I was at.

Oh yeah, Big Ron Atkinson, I saw him walking into the Green Dragon pub (near Cirencester) at lunchtime a few years ago.

And I worked in a pub in Alderley Edge that was frequented by World Cup Winner and at the time Manchester City Manager Alan Ball. He drank a Carling top, and occasionally had a Famous Grouse.
