Sorry about the picture quality, it is from a phone. This viscious bugger hung on by his fangs as I tried to shake him off!

Not sure what type it is, the back bit (abdomen?) is about the size and colour of a baked bean. Not sure if the Baked Bean spider is native to southern England though.

D'you want me to pop dow to Sarfhampton and perform an operation? I've got me scalpel and Leatherman ready.

Cut out the infected bit, stick a plaster over it- good as gold.

It's a woodlouse spider. They are easy to squash!

So, got any super powers coming in yet? Could we be hearing about amazing wall-riding exploits soon?

its a woodlouse spider as Dez quite rightly points out, the ****ers tend to storm my apartment every year around now, that bite will swell up to the size of a babys fist, possibly bigger if it didn't just nip you but went for a full on dose of the nastyness!

I hate the bastards, kill them all and DO NOT USE WOODCHIP in your garden (I seem to remember telling you this!?!)

KILL THEM!! KILL THEM ALL!!

I can't remember what they are called but I found one in mym house.

Did some reserach and found it was one of those insects that came across from overseas and settled over here.

It shouldn't kill you but everyone reacts differently like stings or peanuts allergies.

Keep an eye on yourself-tel a pal or family in case you swell up like a balloon.

Was it radiated before you were bitten? also if the spider was Gay; then does that mean you will be ultra Gay with powers?

They are one of the few spiders in the UK which can bite you although they are not a problem unless you have an allergic reaction. We have recently found a couple of false widow spiders in our house. They can hospitalize some people who react badly to them. Apparently they are becoming more common in the south as they are finding it easier to survive overwinter.

My shed is over run by those False widow buggers. Nasty gits they are. I'm a walking spider buffet (seriously, they can't resist taking a bite) and under the advice of a knowledgable type I took to vitamin B supplements and now the spider bites have dropped off. It alters a scent that they like, apparently.

As advised - keep an eye on any swelling. If it gets sore enough to distract you then call your Dr as you never know how you'll react.

Oh, and KILL THEM ALL!!!

Just thank God Brown Recluse Spiders haven't got here yet. I saw a programme about them a couple of years ago and they freaked me out. Really nasty. Funnel Webs aren't a lot of fun, either. I got bitten by something recently on my arm which came up in a really itchy bump with two very distinctive marks that looked like fang marks. Took ages to go away.

Well you will be glad to know I survived! I think spending the day playing up the woods yesterday meant the mossies sucked all the venom out of me!
