without any operating system faff around the edges

Like what?

Windows keeps trying to tickle my balls when using photoshop/lightroom on a PC, thought it was a standard feature until now

How many processes are required on a mac to download a picture from the Web and upload it to photobucket ?
My phone needs just 2.

I can't draw.

That's because you've never used a Mac before 😉

Well again this was quite a few years ago (early 2000s) but I have pretty clear memories of Windows XP machines of the time blue screening or failing to detect hardware of various descriptions. Wifi was pretty challenging as I recall.

As I say I've not really used Windows for well over a decade now, but at the time there was a clear difference. Even using OS X (Panther I think it was) for the first time, things like Expose and built in PDF viewing (and saving!) blew my mind.

This is the big problem with Mac users is that their Windows opinions are ten years out of date. W10 is unrecognisable compared to XP.

This is only a slight irritation on the road to computing paradise. Soon you will be wondering why anyone owns a Windows computer, and why Microsoft messed up the already perfect Mac keyboard in the first place.

I just typed the above message on my Mac. It felt really good on my lush keyboard. And I even managed it without a super helpful Windows-esque notification popping up to say 'You are typing a message'.

Ever stopped to think why we've all spent more than a decade doing everything in our power to avoid them?

"But...but... its not as shit as it used to be" isn't really a massive selling point, if I'm honest Molls

I would but now I'm locked in!

And besides, opening a file in your web browser of choice is still harder than just pressing spacebar in your file browser.

My point is not so much that Windows is bad (because I have no idea these days) but rather than Macs are actually quite good, and tends to reduce friction.

I can't imagine my parents having a solid backup procedure in place without Time Machine for example. And if I lose my phone I can restore a new one (once I've sold my soul to buy it that is) from the backup in the cloud.

Really windows backup is easy, use google drive, simple, android phones have done that for years. So blind you can't see?

Why not take it to Costa and sit with a caramel latte, writing your blog. Maybe wearing a black roll-neck and some rimless glasses. You'll soon see the appeal

Oh... don't forget you're shitty stick. You'll be needing it

It's quite funny how much Windows machines strive to look like all those lovely Macs now. But they are never quite as nice are they. Come on, admit it.

I own rimless glasses. But my latest ones are thick black framed. Much more on-trend.

"But...but... its not as shit as it used to be" isn't really a massive selling point, if I'm honest Molls

That's hardly what I said. Let me spell it out:

"Windows 10 is as good as MacOS"

Time Machine made it really easy for people to backup properly well before Windows did. And yes, Android phones that you get software updates for for 2 years (that arrive 6 months late) if you're lucky and buy the right one.

All this said and done, I'm not a huge fan of Apple's current desperate desire to make everything really thin at the expense of things like USB ports. The magnetic power adaptor has honestly saved my laptop from death at the hands of the power cable more times than I can think of.

I'll admit Apple have had some good innovations. Agree about the magnetic connector. And Windows backup isn't particularly great IMO.

TeeeHeee.

I'm loving the angst.

Most 12 yr olds switch from Mac to Windoz without blinking and a huff.

MAWCBs and IT, gotta love the inner suppressed frustration.

Well... either that or the fact that every time I tried to do anything with a large multi-layered photoshop file it froze up, then keeled over sideways, had to be restarted, then repeated the same process ad nauseum

I forget which

I hear they're great for other stuff though....

Because you need to keep your blinkers on, so you don't waver in your devotion to The Great Company.

If you actually looked at a Windows 10 machine you might have a crisis of faith. Then where would you be? What would you do in your coffee shop over your latte? How would you look your architect mates in their rimlessly glazed eyes?

I could go on about how shit Macs were 20 years ago, but it'd not really be relevant would it?

Would you buy another Passat?

Don't you also own a VW?

They where better than the PCs of their day though ?

Lets. nor get into W10 w've sone that before at length

It took me maybe 3 months to get comfortable wirh my fist mac in 2006, I bought my second in 2009 and its still my main and only computer (although in fairness had Apple brought out a decent Mini update I would have bought one)

@Daffy IMO key driver for Mac take up was the end of the Windows monoply on software especially around rhe web, Office is about the only thing that's really keeping the compnay in business

That's it then, you once used a shit computer to try and do something. conclusive! 😆

I acquired a Mac and was also frustrated at the amount of stuff that was different just for the sake of it.
I also had a few problems with it and a quick google soon pointed out that those who repeat the mantra "they just work" are in fact, liars. 🙂
I'm sure it wouldn't take long to get used to a Mac, but when I can get a perfectly useable Windows machine for a *tenth of the price, why would I bother?

*I've just checked. 😯

Macs had me till OS X Photos replaced iPhoto.

All they had to do was add a cloud sync'd copy of my library, but they just couldn't resist fiddling with the whole thing .. now it's taking up an uncontrollable portion of phone storage as well as not supporting cut'n'paste direct from Photos into another app. W10 back for day to day use on the household PC.

Still use a Pro for music recording though, it isn't exactly brain surgery switching between W10 and OSX, even hour by hour.

The shitness of it.

They where better than the PCs of their day though ?

Yeah probably. But back then they didn't have the range of software they do now, so that was more of a hindrance.

Office is about the only thing that's really keeping the compnay in business

You don't seem to have much of an idea as to what Microsoft actually do 🙂

And there's also this, 2016 market share
