Any Scottish legal types in tonight?

I have just been called up for Jury service but I am supposed to be going to Chamonix that week (flights and holiday booked, non refundable). Thing is I was called up last year but after calling the Jury attendance hotline on the day was not required to attend. The blurb with the current citation says if you have attended Jury service in the last two years (even if you were not selected) you have the right to be excused Jury service. My question is - does my being available to attend last year but not actually being required to attend qualify me for the right to be excused?

IME with a holiday booked you are off the hook and have a clear conscience. I was asked to send them a copy of the booking form and receipt. Got a thank you in return.

Yes, the citation says you can apply for deferral if you have a holiday booked or similar but they don't guarantee that they can accept all requests.

I've just served in England, to be honest there were hundreds of us waiting to be picked, so the chances of the deferral being refused is quite small. Many people sat around for 2 weeks & weren't picked for a single case.
