[Closed] Jump to first new post?

Click on the link in the "freshness" column, this works as it always has done. The only difference is that when you hover the mouse over the link the popup used to say something like "Last post by doomanic" now it says "Reply to subject of thread"

That's more jump to last reply in thread though, rather than first unread. The forum has never had first unread though.

Strangely on some threads I've clicked on it has gone to the last unread, possibly those I've posted a reply to. Couldn't get the same behaviour just now though. Might have imagined it.

So I’m not missing something obvious, the forum is just shite. Shame.

I've just checked another couple of forums and they just have a "go to last post"  not a "go to last unread" functionality. The only forums I've used that have the latter were UKClimbing which was bespoke software not based on BBForum or PHP-forum.

Barryboys, thediveforum, ukdivers, emtb, pedelecs, bikeradar and mbr all have the ability to jump to first unread. STW is the only forum I frequent that doesn’t.

Oh, and rebreatherworld, ccrexplorers and direxplorers all do it too.

I used to be. I’m taking a break from it at the moment.

Just looked at some of those sites: Quite a few use xenoforo as the forum software, there's a vBulletin and a BB or two. The ability  to go to the first unread post is probably part of those packages. Whatever the Wordpress forum plugin is, it appears not to have that functionality. Nothing to do with STW per se.

UKGS’ers, BabyBMW.net, ZX10r.co.uk all have either have last read post on a thread or the best part - latest unread and/or/latest posts in last day all laid out in a lovely time order......

GS’ers is so busy it makes this place even in full chat look like the Mary Celeste so let’s not try saying it wouldn’t work here due to user numbers, etc like last time....
