A query, a bit early but anyway, sounds like i may have an interview soon. One of the issues that has even made me think of moving is the lack of managerial support and training i am getting.

Is this normal???

Is it just where i am??

Do many people actually get training to assist career progression or is the norm to pick up bits as you go along?

In theory the company where i am is about to install a new SOP system which might be helpful to learn, but no appraisals, no managerial contact, no idea of how i fit/don't fit... so no real idea of whether i learn by staying or just go.

Don't mind the job, most of the time.

Sounds pretty normal to me. Tech training for software use and the odd bit of H&S training but the idea of training people to help them progress their career is rare. That said most places I have been involved with are happy to assist if the person is willing to go and find something they want to do.

In my 28 year working life, it is only the last few years I have spent working for a company willing to give me any training.

You are a commodity, get used to it.

Well aware,

With a new system i see two choices,

a) train existing staff
or
b) fire the existing and get some new staff

Wonderful isn't it!
