Its a little chilly outside.
So,why then do British people insist on wearing jeans outside in freezing temperatures and through deep snow?

Makes me shiver looking at them on the telly.

Chilly outside? Noooo you don't say ... it is still as sunny as usual in the GeordieLand.

I wear jeans but I do wear 100% Marino wool base layer with it though.

I would normally wear a nice pair of opaques under my jeans at this time of year. Can't beat that close to the skin feel.

Merino longjohns FTW.

Alternatively I'm currently rocking some of Howies' nice wool-mix denim*. Toasty!

*The name comes from serge de Nîmes, cloth from Nîmes in southern France. Serge is the type of weaving, rather than any particular material.

Women's tights are good for under the old 'action slacks'. The wife would never miss a pair and your mates need never know.

Flannel lined jeans are lovely when it's cold like now. My Oakley ones are very toasty.

Ooh yes, I had a pair of Gap jeans with a lining, they were really comfy. So comfy I used to where them whenever I could even if it wasn't that cold.

Tights then leggings then a pair of combats. Better still: stay indoors!

OMITN - Even though you have asked me in the nicest possible way, there is a huge difference between sewing curtains and handbags (all straight lines) and lining a pair of jeans.
I really would ruin them. So just take my advice and wear a pair of Dr. North's tights underneath 🙂

So the answer is no. Should you need a handbag lining, no problem.

Bunnyhop - 😀

I've plenty of lard about me to keep me warm - no need for extra lining in my clothes...!

Cos I'm still nice and warm thanks - I wore jeans in Finland in -20 so -2 in Manchester isn't really a big deal.

Tch, people these days - bunch of softies. 🙄

I've just worn 4 layers and my skiing thermals, to nip out into the garden to pick some veg. The spinach is under a 5c.m. layer of snow now, so its naturally frozen.

Crazy-legs - you need to tell us all what you eat, coz I need some.

omitn - you didn't look like a chubber to me.

That's what's so good about flannel lined jeans, they've got the jammies built in. 😀

Those teenager types are no longer walking round with their jeans down their buttocks.

Obviously they have got somebody to buy them a playstation x box thingy so they dont have to go out.

Well my gaffer took me to one side this morning to suggest that my wearing shorts might not be such a good idea health and safety wise , I told him it hadn't been a problem for the last 12 years and couldn't see it becoming one!

He just shrugged his shoulders and walked off 😆

by "jeans" I take it you all mean "denim" jeans?

I haven't owned any denim jeans since I was 18.

Can't say I've ever thought I needed anything warmer than jeans for general mooching about.

At work though it's a different matter:

Thermal socks
Dewalt Challenger Goretex boots
Snickers Hi-viz winter trousers with high back
Base layer/tee
Cycling long sleeved top
Hoodie
Softshell jacket
Goretex Hi-viz motorway coat
Buff
Trapper hat
Gloves

The gloves being the weak point, as being a sparky they have to be very thin, or fingerless - both rubbish at keeping hands warm. This weekend I invested in some hanwarmers from Yeomans, which are ace. The rest of me is toasty anyways.
